Storing Them In The Fridge

How to Cook Hot Dogs in the Oven by Broiling or Baking : Home-Cooked Meals

Its important to refrigerate the hot dogs within 2 hours of cooking. Leaving them at room temperature for longer will make them go bad.

All you have to do is put the cooked hot dogs in an airtight container or wrap them in aluminum foil. Be careful, dont mistake tin foil with aluminum foil, as they are completely different. Afterward, place them in the fridge. The hot dogs will be safe to eat for about 4 days.

What To Serve With These Hot Dogs

One or two of these hot dogs is a pretty solid meal and I like to serve them with tater tots that bake alongside the hot dogs. If thats too heavy of a situation for you, you could try a salad like maybe this Quinoa Spinach Salad or this Kale Caesar Salad!

I promise if you make your dogs and tots like this from now on, you will have a bunch of new friends.

Baking Plain Hot Dogs

  • Turn on the oven and prepare a baking sheet. Preheat the oven to 400°F . Spread the hot dogs you want to bake out on the baking sheet so theyre not touching. If you cant fit all the hot dogs on one baking sheet, use a second sheet.
  • Use a knife to slice the hot dogs down the middle lengthwise. Cut halfway down into the hot dogs with the knife. Cut all the way from one end of each hot dog to the other.
  • Put the hot dogs in the oven for 15 minutes. Set a timer so you dont forget about them. After 15 minutes, open the oven to check on the hot dogs. If they look slightly brown and curled at the edges, theyre finished. If not, leave them in for a few more minutes.
  • For a slightly browner, crispier hot dog, set your oven to broil for the last 2-3 minutes of baking.
  • Take the hot dogs out of the oven and serve. Use a spatula to transfer the hot dogs from the baking sheet to a plate. Serve them in hot dog buns and add toppings like cheese, mustard, ketchup, and relish.
  • If you want melted cheese on your hot dogs, top them with cheese and put them back in the oven for 1 minute.

How To Liven Up A Hotdog

A hotdog does not have to be a plain, boring sausage stuffed into a bun. A simple hotdog can be turned into a gourmet meal by the addition of interesting and varied toppings and sauces.

Here are some of my favorite suggestions for scrumptious ways to liven up your hotdog.

    • A Dollop of Tasty Sauce.

Of course, the most popular sauce to go with a hotdog is good, old-fashioned ketchup, and there is nothing wrong with that. But a generous squirt of interesting sauce will give your hotdog a fantastic tang. Some suggestions are barbecue sauce, mustard, sweet chili sauce, mayo, or thousand island sauce.

    • Fried Onions

Cut up an onion into very thin slices. Fry them up for a few minutes, to brown them. Pile the fried onions into the bun with your hotdog.

    • Sauerkraut

Sauerkraut is finely chopped cabbage that has been fermented and preserved. It has a unique, tangy flavor. A spoon or two of sauerkraut in your hotdog bun will give it an exotic twist.

    • Pickle Relish

Whether you prefer a sweet pickle relish or something with a more sour kick, pickle relish will certainly add some zing to your hotdog. In my book, there is nothing to beat dill pickle relish.

    • Cheddar Cheese

I have saved the best for last. To really turn your hotdog into something special, once it is cooked make a slit down the side of the hotdog with a sharp knife.

Are There Different Types Of Hotdogs

Hot Dogs Baked In The Oven – My Way – Part 2

There are numerous different types of hotdogs, which are all basically varieties of sausage. The most popular hotdogs are Wieners, which are long and thin, and Frankfurters, which are slightly shorter and considerably thicker.

Some hotdogs have thick skin, some have very thin, papery skins, while others have no skins at all. These are known as skinless hotdogs. I am not a huge fan of skinless hotdogs, as they tend to fall apart when you cook them.

Wieners and Frankfurters, on the other hand, frequently have a place on my shopping list. They are versatile and tasty, and quick and easy to prepare.

With a little bit of imagination and not too much effort, the humble hotdog can be transformed into a delectable meal. Later on, in this article, I will give you some suggestions for ways to liven up your everyday hotdog.

How To Cook Hotdogs In A Toaster Oven

My toaster oven is one of the most used appliances in my kitchen. Who would have thought that this nifty little miniature oven could be so handy, and could do so much?

The one thing that I almost never use it for is making toast, because Id rather make toast in an air fryer! But a toaster oven is really great for quick meals like hotdogs. If you ask me how to cook hotdogs in a toaster oven, the short answer is, very easily.

Cooking hotdogs in a toaster oven gives them a similar look and flavor to when they are cooked on a grill. They will be golden brown, and crispy on the outside, but soft and moist on the inside.

Because hotdogs are such a popular meal in my house, I have experimented a lot with them, and I have learned a few tricks along the way. There are a few simple tips for getting the perfect hotdog.

Before I tell you exactly how to cook hotdogs in a toaster oven, I am happy to share these vital tips with you.

TIP NUMBER 1: Always buy good quality hotdogs. Many cheaper brands of hot dogs are filled with unhealthy additives and are bulked up with things like soya or cornmeal.

Because hotdogs are usually bought frozen and are packaged according to weight, it is also easy for manufacturers to add extra brine, in order to make up extra weight. This, of course, simply evaporates during the cooking process, giving you a dry, tasteless hotdog.

Follow this step-by-step guide to cooking hotdogs in a toaster oven, for the yummiest hotdogs ever.

Broiling Hot Dogs In The Toaster Oven

If you want your hot dogs to be extra crunchy and snappy, try broiling your dogs instead of baking them. Heres how you can do it:

    Step 1: Prepare Everything

Set your toaster oven to broil. While the oven is slowly heating up, line your baking tray with some aluminum foil. Place the hot dogs on the tray, make sure that they dont touch each other.

If you dont want your hot dogs to dry out, you can wrap them with aluminum foil. The foil will prevent the moisture from escaping, making the hot dogs juicy and tender.

    Step 2: Broil Them

Place your baking tray on the top rack of your toaster oven and allow them to broil for 10 minutes. Dont forget to flip them midway so all the sides are evenly cooked.

    Step 3: Enjoy!

When the hot dogs start browning, and the skin becomes crispy, it is time to take them out. Again, you should check their internal temperature with a meat thermometer to be 100% sure that they are cooked through.

Note: If you plan on having buns with your hot dogs, you should warm them up while the hot dogs are cooking. In this case, you might want to learn the methods to steam hot dog buns.

Whats The Best Way To Cook Hotdogs For A Crowd

Out of all the methods that we tried, roasting is the best way to go for serving up a large number of wienies as its fairly easy and worry-free. Preheat the oven to 350°F . Place the hot dogs on a rimmed baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Roast for 10 to 20 minutes, or until hot dogs are heated through to 160°F .
