How Long To Cook Ribs In The Oven
Low and slow is the best rule of thumb for the most tender and juicy baby back ribs. I prefer cooking ribs in the oven at 275 degrees Fahrenheit for about 2 2 1/2 hours. Then, turn the oven to broil and caramelize the barbecue sauce for 5-10 minutes.
If you are looking to cook them a little faster. Here are the temps and cooking times I recommend to use.
- 275°F 2 hours to 2 1/2 hours
- 300°F 1 1/2 hours to 2 hours
- 350°F 1 1/4 hours to 1/1/2 hours

How To Remove The Membrane
To begin making the best BBQ ribs in your oven start by removing the tough membrane from under your rack of ribs. This is the silver skin on the bone side of the ribs. Removing it is tricky for some, but it is pretty easy with this trick. Simply slide a spoon between the membrane and a bone to loosen it up, then I use a napkin for grip and pull it off the slab in one strip. The napkin prevents your fingers from slipping off. You can also use a butter knife, just be careful not to puncture the thin membrane.
Once this is done the meat can be seasoned with your favorite spice rub or simply some salt, then they are ready to cook in the oven. My personal preference is my dry rub recipe containing brown sugar, paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, dry mustard, and cayenne pepper.
How To Make Sticky Ribs

When the tender ribs are finished cooking we are going to paint them in BBQ sauce and then caramelize the sauce under the higher temperature of your broiler until they are delectably sticky. You will place the ribs under the broiler lacquer with additional sauce every few minutes until a hot sticky bark is formed. This will take 30-60 minutes total, depending on how thick you want the sauce.
Broiling the ribs coated in sauce is the secret to this easy recipe. Broiling BBQ sauce will quickly cause it to boil, releasing moisture and causing it to thicken into a finger-lickingly delicious sticky jam. Not only will this thicker sauce adhere to the meat better, the flavor becomes more concentrated as well. You can use this recipe with my homemade BBQ sauce, or buy your favorite barbecue sauce from the grocery store.
BBQ sauce is high in sugar so carefully watch the ribs under the broiler as the high temperature can burn it easily. They should never be left under the broiler for more than a few minutes at a time without being moved around or adding additional sauce or you will be awoken to your mistake by smoke alarms.
Tip: You obviously want to cover the meaty side of the ribs with sauce but also make sure to cover the sides of the ribs and the underside as well.

Super Moist And Tender Pork Ribs Are First Prepared In An Instant Pot And Then Brushed With A Homemade Chipotle Tequila Barbecue Sauce The Ribs Are Then Tossed On The Grill Until That Delicious Sauce Becomes Hot Sticky And Stuck To Those Gorgeous Ribs By Means Of Beautiful Grill Marks Are You Drooling Yet
Lord Byrons Kitchen is no stranger to rib recipes. The most popular are my Copycat Chinese Dry Garlic Ribs. That one is followed closely by my Family Style BBQ Ribs. And, just recently, I published my Bourbon Pork Ribs, which seems to be gaining traction as well. These Chipotle Tequila Pork Ribs have some stiff competition!
All of those other ribs have one thing in common. They are all baked in the oven. Each of those recipes requires a slow baking time at a low temperature. I dont mind spending two or three hours cooking ribs, but I know some people dont have time for that. Allow me to introduce these instant pot ribs! No need to wait two or three hours anymore!
Disclaimer: The instant pot is used to cook the ribs with a seasoning that will permeate the meat. You can eat them just like that, or you can baste and grill them. The sauce is applied after the instant pot has done its job. I take the ribs a bit further and coat them in a homemade sauce before grilling them on high heat to get those grill marks we all love to see on grilled meat.

The best way to get the most flavor from oven-baked ribs is to use a spice rub. I love this rub because it’s made with many common spices you probably already have in your pantry like cumin, smoked paprika, and ground coriander. When mixed with the brown sugar the flavor created is sweet and smokey with a little bit of a kick.

How To Make Chipotle Tequila Pork Ribs
COOKING THE RIBS
Start by removing the membrane on the back of the ribs. Pat them all dry with paper towels and set them in a large bowl. Sprinkle over the salt and pepper. Next, ensure your trivet or steam rack is in your instant pot. Pour in the stock and vinegar.
Lay both racks into the instant pot in a standing, circular fashion. Basically, the racks will sit on their sides and form to the inside of the pot. Close and seal the instant pot. Pressure cook on high for 23 minutes. Once done, allow the steam to release naturally for five minutes. Then, carefully open the valve to remaining pressure out.
PREPARING THE SAUCE
While the ribs are cooking in the instant pot, prepare the sauce. Its super easy to do! Measure the tomato paste, tequila, rice vinegar, and the BBQ spice rub into a bowl. Whisk to combine and set aside.
FINISHING THE RIBS ON THE GRILL
At this point, the ribs are fully cooked and you can eat them. However, to fully get the rib experience, I would highly recommend you add sauce and place the ribs on the grill. It will just take a few minutes!
If using an indoor stovetop or electric grill, the same cooking process applies. Once the ribs are slightly charred, remove them from the grill immediately. Please note that I used an outdoor grill. You can also use a panini press too. Be sure to fully preheat the grill first, otherwise, the ribs will be overcooked.

How Long To Bake Baby Back Ribs
Slow and low is the name of the game for baking baby back ribs. Youll start your bake at 200°F for the 5 hours, covering the ribs in tin foil to lock in moisture and to make sure they dont dry out. After five hours, youll remove the foil cover, check that the ribs have reached an internal temperature of 145°F and baste with your barbecue sauce. Broiling is the next step in your path to baby back rib greatness, and 3 minutes is all youll need to achieve those crispy edges.
When Are Ribs Done

Properly cooked rib meat should threaten to crack when held up with tongs, and the bones should be able to be pulled away fairly cleanly with a firm twist. However, the meat should not come separated from the bone without assistance and should not lend itself to be described as “falling off the bone.” A properly cooked rib should be soft and tender but yet still have a slight chew to the meat, much like a very tender steak.

It Helps Local Farmers Their Families And Communities
Im all about supporting businesses in the United States, and eating pork from Iowa is a fantastic way to do that.
About a third of the pork in the United States comes from Iowa. When youre buying it from the grocery store, youre helping those farms and families in the U.S.
Farms employ others, as well as keep the family and community going.
Many young adults from elementary through high school join clubs that promote learning through farming, raising pigs, and go on to study agricultural education, animal science and even help solve problems with agriculture worldwide.
So, it spans generations of helping others when you can buy and eat pork from Iowa farms and those around the country. .

A Seasoning With Many Uses
Contrary to what you might think, a spice rub is not only for rubbing into ribs or pork before you smoke them. A rub can be used in so many ways! Once you have this rub in your pantry, get ready for a whole lot of flavour in many of your mains and sides.
Obviously, you can use it as intended. Rub it over chicken, beef, pork, etc. Cover it and let it sit in the fridge so that the rub can really permeate the meat. Then, cook according to your liking. It screams grilling, right? But, what if you dont have a grill? Here are some options.
Stir some of the spice rub mixture into the water when cooking rice. Plain rice is great, but spice rub seasoned rice is wonderful! Add a teaspoon or so to a pasta salad. Its as easy as whisking the spice rub into the mayonnaise or sour cream before tossing it with the cooked pasta.
The same method can be applied to sour cream. Whisk in the rub to make a fast, easy, and delicious dip. Try placing some of the spice rub into a mason jar. Pour in some olive oil. Put the lid on and shake it until well mixed. Pour the dressing over greens or drizzle it over roasted or grilled vegetables. So much flavour!
Bake The Ribs For Two Hours In The Oven
Two hours may seem like a long time to wait for ribs! But trust me, you’ll be so glad you did when you take your first bite! Succulent meat, falling off the bone, is well worth the effort! And the only way to get that is to bake them in the oven first!
Place the ribs on separate racks and then switch their positions after one hour.
Once the ribs are done, they will look like this and be tender to the touch. In fact, they’ll be so tender they will be a bit fragile so be careful when handling them.
The best way to bring them out to the grill is on a large baking sheet. They will be easier to handle that way and once cooked, two racks will fit nicely on one sheet pan.

What You Need For Oven Pork Ribs With Barbecue Sauce

And heres what you need. Nothing unique here, except perhaps the molasses in the barbecue sauce.
I cant remember where I first saw it, but I added it to my barbecue sauce once then I never looked back. It adds colour and intensity of flavour that cant be replicated! Truly worth using if you can get your hands on it. If not, dont fret substitute with golden syrup or use dark brown sugar instead of normal brown sugar. Similar result!

I’m curious if temperature in cooking times would apply to bone in. And if I would need to cut them in half or even thirds to match the size you have in your pictures

Hi A, you will need to cook them a little longer for bone in. I would have a digital thermometer nearby to check the temperature. You can always cut the recipe in half if you don’t want that large of a serving. Hope that helps!
