How Much Brisket Equals One Serving
You can expect a brisket to cook down 50 percent of its total weight. Its always best to have more meat than you need in my opinion. Therefore, I always plan on 1 pound of raw meat per person, or 1/2 pound cooked.
It also depends on how you are serving it. I want a tender brisket thinly sliced. I dont cook it long enough to shred. Slices will not go as far as chopped or shredded brisket will. I found detailed serving information here.
How many people will I be serving or how much do I want leftover? This tells me how big a brisket cut I want. I generally go for the 4 to 5 pounds. We love the leftovers.

Is Brisket Dry Brine The Same As The Brisket Dry Rub
When applying the spice combination to the brisket, you get a rub and bake it immediately. It will flavor the meat’s outside, and the spices will enter a little amount of the beef’s internal structure.
Brisket dry brine is used to describe seasoning the brisket and allowing it to sit overnight before roasting. For a more flavorful piece of meat, let the salt and other seasonings penetrate the meat for a longer time.
How Do I Slice Beef Brisket
Allowing brisket to rest lets juice redistribute throughout the meat. If sliced right off the grill, the meat would lose moisture. You want to slice against the grain. The grain of any meat is the alignment of the muscle fibers. When you cut with the grain, the muscle fibers remain somewhat intact and result in meat that is tough and difficult to chew. When you cut against the grain, you break up the muscle fibers evenly so that the meat becomes much more tender and easy to chew.

Make The Best Oven Roasted Beef Brisket For Dinner Tonight
When you are looking for something truly special to serve for dinner, you should never hesitate to choose a hearty beef brisket recipe.
Brisket makes me think about my grandmother on my fathers side of the family. She was a traditionalist, and brisket for Sunday supper was a must.
Whenever visited her in Florida, I always looked forward to those hearty dinners with my family.
The smell of the brisket roasting in the oven filled the whole house as we played board games or put together a puzzle to pass the time.
My grandmother would always pull out the extra fancy china for these meals, even if we werent visiting at the holidays. She liked to say that we should take every chance we got to celebrate, so just being in her home was reason enough to use it.
Thats the kind of attitude towards gatherings that Ive tried to adopt in my own home. Every opportunity that we have to come around the table together is a special occasion, and a reason to celebrate.
When it comes to beef brisket, it seems like most people today tend to save it for the holidays or special occasions. While this recipe is definitely ideal for a holiday meal or a special dinner party, it also makes for a fantastic family meal on a weeknight.
It will require some advance planning to make this dish. It might be easy to cook, but you need to prepare the brisket a day in advance, so it has plenty of time to soak in the flavors of the rub that you will make for it.
Wondering what else to serve?
How To Make Oven Roasted Brisket
After you purchase your brisket, you’ll need to trim the fat cap. This ensures the meat cooks without getting tough.
Next, prepare your marinade or dry rub. Evenly coat both sides of the brisket with the dry rub and wrap the whole brisket in tin foil. Let it sit in the refrigerator overnight to really absorb the flavors.
The next day, unwrap the brisket and let it come to room temperature. While the brisket is coming to temperature, preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Put the brisket fat side up, uncovered, in the oven for one hour. This is important!
After an hour, add 1 1/2 cups of beef stock to your roasting pan. The extra moisture from the stock will help keep the brisket moist while it cooks. Lower the oven temperature to 300 and cover the pan completely with aluminum foil. Put it back in the oven for 3 hours, or until fork-tender. You can use a meat thermometer to make sure the internal temperature reads at least 180 degrees F. Once it is done, remove the brisket to a cutting board and let rest. Make sure to cut brisket against the grain for the most tender piece of meat.

Total time was about 5.5 hours. It takes a while and timing will vary depending on how large yours is of course. Here is a quick step by step but there is a printable recipe card at the bottom of this post too.
Time needed: 5 hours.
Oven Baked Brisket
Mix dry ingredients together in a bowl. Rinse off brisket and pat dry with paper towels. Preheat oven to 300 degrees F.
Lay meat flat on a cutting board. Pour half rub on top and rub/pat on so theres a nice thick coat. Flip over and do the same thing on the bottom.Put foil on a baking sheet . Lay brisket on top, allow excess rub to fall off on cutting board. Pour excess from board on top of meat and press on again.
With foil cover the top and secure on the sides so its all enclosed. Bake for 3 hours.
Before taking it out add sauce ingredients into a small saucepan on the stovetop. Boil until onions are softened.Take meat out, take foil off and pour 1/3 1/2 of sauce on top of meat.
Put aluminum foil back on the top and put beef brisket into the oven again for 1.5-2 hours until meat is fork tender. Then take foil off and bake uncovered for 30 minutes so outsides can get nice and brown.
Remove pan and put foil back on top to let meat rest for 30 minutes before slicing. Serve slices with a side dish with some of the remaining sauce poured on top to make it super moist.
Cook The Brisket Overnight
Remove the pan from the fridge and place in a preheated oven at 275°F for about 1 hour per pound. Leave the pan covered with foil.
The brisket will be perfectly tender and ready to shred when the internal temperature reaches 200°F degrees with an in-oven meat thermometer. Its ok for the brisket to cook beyond 200 degrees internally, within reason.
Since the meat cooks in its own juices, the meat will be incredibly tender and should fall right apart when shredded.

How Long To Rest Brisket Before Cooking
One of the best brisket tips that I have for you is to let your brisket marinate in the dry rub brine overnight, or up to 24 hours. This accomplishes 2 things:
How To Serve Brisket The Texas
If you’d like a true BBQ experience with smoked brisket, feel free to add some liquid smoke. The liquid smoke would be added to the broth for the second part of the cooking process. Traditional Texas BBQ brisket only uses BBQ sauce as a dip, and not to cook the meat. If you want, serve the brisket with your favorite BBQ sauce on the side.
You can store leftover brisket in an airtight container in the fridge. To reheat, add some more beef stock to the brisket, re-wrap it in foil, and place in the oven for 20 minutes at 325 degrees.
If you don’t feel like making brisket in the oven, you can use a slow cooker. Slow cooking the brisket is basically the same process, just more time. You use the same dry rub and place the brisket in the slow cooker on low for 11-13 hours.

How To Cook Texas
Even oven-baked brisket can be flavorful, tender, and moist. For this beef brisket recipe, you’ll need an oven, a large roasting pan, some seasonings, brisket, and a few hours of uninterrupted time.
The prep time for cooking a brisket is fairly short, while the cook time takes several hours. The total time, including inactive marinating, is about 24 hours got this oven-roasted brisket. Brisket has a lot of connective tissue that needs time to break down to become tender. A good rule of thumb for brisket is that it takes about 30-60 minutes per pound to cook. If using a 4-pound brisket, give yourself about 4 hours to ensure a tender brisket. The trick to keeping the brisket moist is to marinate the meat for 24 hours before cooking. This locks in the flavors and the juices.
Best Way To Store Beef Brisket
Before I bake the brisket, I plan on how I will be serving it such as
- If I bake just enough for a couple of meals, I will slice it and store it in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to 5 days.
- If I want to repurpose oven brisket, I get a general idea of what Im going to be doing with it and when I plan on using it.
- You can chop it or slice it before refrigerating it or, you can freeze it in the quantity for the recipes you plan on making eventually.

Why This Recipe Works
- It skips a brisket marinade in favor of simply moistening with worcestershire sauce and rubbing it with a simple brisket rub, then letting it sit overnight to draw out moisture before repeating it in the morning and sticking the brisket in the oven.
- Total prep is all of 10 minutes, then the oven or slow cooker does the rest of the work in this easy-as-it-gets juicy brisket recipe.
- You don’t need a smoker to get great barbecue-tasting results. True, it’s not the same as a Texas Smoked Brisket, but it can definitely be appreciated on its own merits, which are many.

Sunny Anderson opts for a store-bought spice mix to rub all over her brisket. She stresses to check the ingredient list before buying anything. “Some BBQ rubs have sugar in them and some don’t. You want the BBQ rub with the sugar in it because we’re going to caramelize,” she says.

How To Reheat Brisket
Brisket is nicely reheated in the oven.
Preheat oven to 350°. Slice cold brisket and wrap the slices in foil.
Reheat the foil packets in the oven for 15-20 minutes, depending on how thick the slices are and how many slices there are in the foil. You can place foil wrapped brisket directly on the oven rack or on a baking sheet.
Note: the little fat layer on top wont have the crunch once its been reheated.
