I originally bought this to act as a “sort of” proofing oven but find myself using it often for many other things. I love the air-fryer for potato wedges – thanks for nothing Breville – but it toasts gluten free bread really well, grills very gently, and even fits my 26cm casserole pot. It’s an excellent addition to my kitchen freeing up space in the built in 90cm oven for larger items and also quicker to heat for smaller jobs

Hi everyone! I usually spend my time blogging with Mom on Pressure Cooking Today. However, my Breville toaster oven is my other daily-use appliance. Ill often make a main dish in the Instant Pot and roast veggies or broil garlic bread in the Breville.

It Has A Few More Bells And Whistles Than Our Winning Toaster Oven

The Breville Smart Oven was our winner in our review of toaster ovensand its a great choice. It sports a convection fansame as the Joule Air Fryer Toaster Ovenand has nine cooking functions, including toast, bagel, bake, roast, broil, pizza, cookies, reheat, and warm. What makes the Joule Air Fryer Toaster Oven different is its app connectivity, super convection fan , and its air fryer, dehydrate, slow cook, and proof functions.

The Breville Joule Oven Air Fryer Pro Toaster Oven is a great buy if you want to squeeze the most you can get out of an appliance I loved that I could bake, roast, air fry, toast, and dehydrate all in one machine . The convection feature on this baby was also a fantastic time saver.

There are a few negatives, though. First, I didnt find the app particularly helpful functions like Autopilot, while nice in theory, didnt really save me that much time or energy, and the notifications were more annoying than useful. I also couldnt get the oven to connect to my Google Home, which would have been fun to try.

So, if you want to save $100, you could spring for the Breville Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro instead, which seems very similar to the Joule oven , though we havent tested it. And if youre looking for an even more no-frills pick, we also like the Breville Smart Oven.

Design: Attractive On The Counter

This oven comes with a brushed stainless steel finish or a dark stainless steel finish at a slightly higher price. It looks deceptively small, considering the generous interior space. Thanks to a rounded bump-out on the back of the oven, it can accommodate a typical frozen pizza.

The rack system is ingenious. The racks are built so they can be inserted in one orientation so theyre higher in the oven, and inserted in the other orientation so they sit lower in the oven. That gives twice as many rack positions simply by flipping the racks upside down. The front window shows numbered rack positions, so its easy to follow recipes that ask for a particular position.

The controls should be familiar to anyone who has used a Breville product before, and it should also be intuitive for new users. The app can be used to control the oven as well, although for safety, the user needs to press the button to start the cooking.

Besides settings for cook settings, time, and temperature, there are handy buttons to turn convection on and off, to toggle the frozen food setting on and off, to turn the oven light on, and Brevilles signature a little more setting that adds cooking time to any recipe. The last button is for a user-set favorite cook, which is handy when theres a particular food thats cooked often, like morning bagels or reheated pizza.

What If My Main Oven Has A Convection Setting

Many home ovens now have convection technology, or even special air fry settings. Weve tested a full-size convection oven against a pod-shaped air fryer and a convection toaster oven, and found you can get similar air fried results. But because a full-size oven is so much larger than a toaster oven or a pod-shaped air fryer, it can take longer to preheat and to cook food. Some manufacturers have even started offering no-preheat air fry settings, though we have yet to test those against our air fryer or air fryer toaster oven picks. If youre considering getting an air fryer toaster oven specifically because you want to air fry food, wed recommend testing out the convection setting on your full-size oven first to see if youre happy with the results. You may find you dont need a separate appliance. However, you may still want an air fryer toaster oven for smaller cooking tasks. A toaster oven also uses less energy and generally wont heat up your kitchen as much.

It has a sophisticated LCD display thats controlled by buttons and dials. Weighing 38.9 pounds, it’s the heaviest toaster oven weve had on test, however its finished so nicely that you would want to keep this on display.

Returning This Cuisinart Airfryer Toaster Oven

Im relatively new to air frying. I bought this Cuisinart Digital AirFry Toaster Oven for a discount two months ago. While Im happy with how the product works and the quality of the food, it is an absolute chore to clean.

Once I started noticing buildup, I made sure to always wipe down the machine after every use and scrub it with a hard brush to remove what I could. The top heating bars make reaching certain areas extremely difficult, and the internal fan chamber has a ton of buildup that will pretty much never be reachable, which is the reason why Im returning it today. Mostly want to avoid a potential fire hazard here, but Im hoping to find another Air Fryer that is more accessible to clean thoroughly. I would try to dismantle the machine to see if theres a better way, but dont want to risk it compared to a return or exchange. As far as I can tell the only dismantle-able part is the back panel.

Any recommendations on a Air Fryer that works well and can be properly maintained? Im looking around here now to see whats popular. Willing to pay a good price for quality and Im not overly attached to the toaster oven functionality so its not a requirement. Thank you!

French fries came out evenly golden and crunchy , as did a very simple Breville recipe for air-fried chicken wings the wings came out very crispy, but still juicy and tender inside. Plus, the toaster oven comes with an air fryer mesh basket, ensuring air circulates all around your food.

The Breville Is More Versatile Than An Oven

I use my Breville every night for dinner and sometimes for lunch too. You can see what I like to cook in my oven below. You can toast, roast, air fry, bake, warm and slow cook. There are more, but they seem repetitive to me. It can be used in the convection mode and the non-convection mode. It can also measure in Fahrenheit and Celcius.

Breville Joule Oven Air Fryer Pro: Super Smart App

Im not usually a fan of apps for small appliances, mainly because they really dont add to the experience. But if all smart home apps were like the Joule Oven app, Id be a convert. In addition to featuring tons of tasty recipes from the Breville test kitchen, famous chefs, New York Times Cooking, Americas Test Kitchen, Williams Sonoma, Serious Eats, and more, it actually connects with the oven to aid in cooking. When you need to step in and rotate a pan, you get an alert on your phone. The timer on the oven will pause while you make the rotation. Youd think all apps would work so seamlessly, but no.

The recipes are straightforward and include a list of ingredients, total time, active time, serving amount, and skill level. Each step has a corresponding video, so if a cooking or baking term is new, the app demonstrates it for you. As you work through the recipe, when its time to cook or set a timer, the app tells you that, too. It even includes the rack to use in the oven. My favorite app feature is that your phone screen stays on when youre making a recipe. You will never need to use your sticky fingers to enter your phones passcode to return to the recipe.

I used the app recipes to make a ton of meals, and everything came out pretty well and nothing was burned or undercooked.

When To Consider A Regular Toaster Oven

Air frying is just convection baking, smartly rebranded . So any oven with convection works the same way as an air fryer: A fan circulates hot air around the food, crisping the outside in a way that mimics deep frying .

Modern air frying uses more powerful fans, but a good convection toaster oven , can deliver similar results. Generally, if you opt for a convection toaster oven over an air fryer toaster oven, youll pay a little less, and youll need to cook your food a little bit longer to get comparably crispy results. You also wont get features like a specific air fry setting or basket, but those arent necessary to get extra-crispy results.

If air frying isnt a top priority but a smaller footprint or lower price is, you might just want a small, regular toaster oven . Wed recommend the Panasonic FlashXpress . It wont blast food with hot air, but it can still bake relatively quickly and provide crispy results due to its small oven cavity, which is similar in size to a pod-shaped air fryer.
