How Does It Compare
In my test of the best air fryers, this product proved to be one of the most versatile options. It can cook a pizza, roast a chicken, or reheat a bagel. I loved how much food it can accommodateits 21.5 inches wide, 17.3 inches deep, and 12.8 inches tall and the fact that I could control it from my phone. This oven is one of the most efficient I tested, too: eight rack positions allow you to cook multiple layers of food at once, too. Even more so, I love that despite the extra functionality, its still very easy to use and simple to understand.
The Joule is a great option for someone looking for an all-in-one oven, but it couldnt match the same air frying abilities as the Ninja Air Fryer Max XL or the Instant Vortex 6-quart Air Fryer, both of which are basket-style machines. The cookies baked perfectly, but we found that it didnt produce the same ultra-crispy results when used as a dedicated air fryer. Additionally, its considerably bigger, so it takes up more space on the countertop and would be more difficult to store.
The Breville Joule is a great option if you want an air fryer that’s more versatile and roomy enough … to cook larger batches compared to basket-style fryers.

How I Tested The Best Air Fryer
A Multifunctional Countertop Oven
Out of all the air fryers I tested, the Breville Joule has by far the most versatile functionality. It can operate as a standard convection oven or an air fryer, and it performed all cooking tasks well in my tests. The oven is spacious and large compared to a standard basket-style fryer, so it can accommodate a tray of appetizers, a few pieces of toast, or an entire 14-pound turkey. The thirteen functions include toast, bagel, bake, air fry, broil, roast, pizza, cookies, proof, reheat, slow cook, keep warm, and dehydrate. It has eight rack positions so you can achieve consistent, targeted results for the type of food youre cooking, which makes it more versatile than other air fryers I tested. This oven is a fantastic option for someone looking to save space by replacing multiple gadgets with one d0-it-all machine.
The Breville Joule’s rack can adjust to 8 different positions for different cooking tasks.

The Air Fryer Element Was Great
Serious Eats / Grace Kelly
While we generally think a designated air fryer does a better job at air frying , the Breville actually air-fried quite well. French fries came out evenly golden and crunchy , as did a very simple Breville recipe for air-fried chicken wings the wings came out very crispy, but still juicy and tender inside. Plus, the toaster oven comes with an air fryer mesh basket, ensuring air circulates all around your food.

I said above that I didnt necessarily love all the toaster ovens I tried.
Some werent capable of doing the job of a wall oven, without hassle.
And a lot of the toaster ovens I checked out fell short.
But the Breville Smart Oven Air boasts an impressive 1800 watts of power.
This drives a 2-speed convection fan and 6 independent quartz heating elements.
Long story short this thing is powerful!
Standard Half Sheet Pans Dont Fit Inside

This is a bummer, but, to be fair, most toaster ovens are smaller than a standard oven and wont fit a standard, half sheet pan inside. This was actually one of the roomiest toaster ovens Ive used . That said, we do wish that the toaster oven came with more than just a single sheet pan, and that it was flush and smooth rather than divoted. If you like quarter or eighth sheet pans, this is the oven to use them in.

You can control the Smart Oven Air using its four dials that are located below the LCD control panel.
There are a few smaller buttons as well.
Its best to read through the user manual to get used to all the controls its worth it.
With all the different Element IQ presets, I avoided buying an air fryer and dehydrator completely. Ive almost completely given up on my wall oven.
Breville Smart Oven Pro
To begin with, the oven is designed with the smart element IQ, which is a form of smart heating technology. To illustrate, this feature helps with the intelligent transfer of heat, and since there are five-quartz heating elements, which results in stable and accurate heating outcomes. For instance, you will be able to get the perfect cooking outcomes. The oven is designed with a 1800W configuration for preheating to make sure the meals are ready on time.
The oven is integrated with a built-in convection fan that helps circulate hot air within the oven, which speeds up the cooking process. In fact, the convection fan helps raise the hot air and sink the cold air, which creates the perfect environment for quick heating outcomes. Another feature is the slow cooking function which helps the users create complex flavors in their recipes and tenderize the food items. The slow cook function can cook food for up to ten hours, and its a perfect way of keeping the food warm.
When it comes down to cooking, there are ten cooking functions, including toasting, baking, bagel, roast, pizza, broil, slow cook, warm, reheat, and cookies. The oven is integrated with interior oven lights that are designed to turn on automatically when the cooking cycle ends, so you can check out the internal compartment and the food. In addition, the internal light has an automated shutoff, and there is an independent control button.

How It Stacks Up
The Joule Oven is Brevilles first attempt at making a truly connected Smart Oven, with features targeted more toward the home cook who wants to learn to cook more sophisticated meals but needs the extra guidance that recipe testing and app control bring to the table. And it does deliver for this type of cook.
We do think that it may disappoint those looking for more advanced functions or customizability. The Joule Oven lacks the steam and sous vide combi oven features and temperature probe-based functions that some of its smart oven rivals offer, limiting its usefulness for true precision cooking, which was surprising, given the Joule brands history in sous vide precision cooking.
Still, we are hopeful Breville will iterate on the idea and add functionality in subsequent Joule ovens. But for now wed recommend this one mostly to beginners wanting a tool that amounts to a built-in cooking instructor.

The Smart Oven Air Replaces Several Appliances
This Breville Smart Oven Air Fryer is capable of doing a whole lot of things.
Lets start with air frying.
An air fryer was something Id wanted for a while, as Im not a fan of deep-frying French fries.
Little did I know that a toaster oven would be enough.
No need to buy a stand alone air fryer good news for our bank account!

The Breville Joule Oven Air Fryer Pro Is A Smart Oven That Can Teach You To Cook
In July 2019, high-end kitchen appliance brand Breville acquired ChefSteps, the company behind the popular Joule sous vide circulator. Breville has now released the first Joule product under its own name, the Breville Joule Oven Air Fryer Pro, which adds IoT functions and app control to the existing Breville Smart Oven lineup.
We spent several weeks using the Joule Oven and think that it can benefit home cooks who want a very simplified experience and are looking for automation features to direct and assist them as they try out new recipes or learn new cooking techniques. Experienced cooks looking for fine-grained control and customization in a quest to reproduce restaurant-grade results or prepare meals at a very high food geek level are likely to find the smarts too limited or simply unnecessary.
Breville Smart Oven Air Vs Pro

In our article, well talk about the differences between the Breville Smart Oven Air vs. Pro.
Honestly, theres quite a few, but the important ones are, Airs higher capacity which can hold a lot more food, as well as its special features such as proof and dehydrate settings.
While its considerably more expensive, the added benefits and improved technology make Breville Smart Oven Air the superior model when compared to Pro.
However, if youre looking for something that takes up less counter space and is a little more simple, thenBreville Smart Oven Air Pro is a good choice to go for as well.

Quick To Use And Cleanup
If you read the list of food I used to make in my oven.
You can probably guess that some of it was messy.
Take pizza, for example.
Who doesnt love some extra cheese?
I know that my kids do, but extra cheese comes at the price of extra cleanup.
Fortunately, the Smart Oven Air makes cleaning up super easy!

Breville Smart Oven Air Vs Pro Whats Different
Technology When it comes down to technology, Air has an advantage over Breville Smart Oven Pro.
The reason being that Air comes with 6 elements that can be controlled independently of one another, while the Pro has 5 that provides a heat level that is even yet static across the entire oven.
Capacity In terms of capacity, Air offers a larger space that can fit a 9-slice toaster with room for up to a 13 Pizza, 9 x 13 baking pan, a 12-cup muffin tray, as well as a 14-pound turkey! While Breville Pro offers a lesser capacity as it can only fit a 6-slice toaster, 13 pizza, a whole chicken, or a 9 cup muffin tray.
Warranty While both smart ovens provide a warranty, Air provides a one-year limited product warranty, while Pro comes with a double amount of two years.
Fan Speed Because Breville Smart Oven Air includes a super speed fan function, it means it that its perfect for air frying, dehydration, and roasting, as it can move the air around much more quickly. While Breville Pros fans cant go past the regular speed.
Settings Breville Smart Oven Air also comes with more settings and presets such as Proof, Air Fry, and Dehydrating settings, which arent available for Smart Oven Pro.
However, both models still come with, pizza, toast, bagel, roast, reheat, warm, broil, cookies, bake, and slow cook features.
Dimensions Because Smart Oven Air comes with a larger capacity, it also makes sense for it to have bigger dimensions as well.
Breville Smart Oven Air
This is another oven designed by Breville, and its designed with a variety of advanced features. To begin with, this oven is designed with super convection technology which is delivered by two-speed convection fans, regular and super. These convection fans promise better control of cooking. In addition, this convection technology promises even and quick heat distribution, which makes it a promising choice for roasting, dehydration, and air frying.
Breville smart oven air is integrated with precision cooking as well as element IQ, which optimizes temperature control. In fact, it has PID temperature control to provide better control on technology. When it comes down to element IQ, it has a six-quartz heating element, which delivers maximum power for cooking. On top of everything, it has dehydrated and air fry presets that help make healthier food and snacks, and you can make four trays of food.
The oven has a pretty large size, which makes it sufficient for toasting nine slices of bread as well as a 14lb turkey at once. Also, if you are someone who likes baking desserts, you can make twelve cups of muffin trays pretty easily. As well as cooking is concerned, it comes with 3 cooking functions, including broil, bagel, bake, warm, roast, proof, reheat, slow cook, proof, dehydrate, and much more, so you can make a variety of recipes.

WINNER – HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
Our top pick had intuitive controls and consistently made the best food in the bunch. We liked its clearly labeled knobs and digital interface that displayed the time, temperature, and cooking setting. It made excellent toast produced tender, browned broiled asparagus yielded roasted chicken that was golden all over and made air-fryer french fries and chicken Parmesan on par with recipes made in our favorite traditional air fryer. To use the air-frying function, we had to preheat the oven, which we found a bit annoying. We also thought that the oven was a bit hard to cleangrease clung to its sides and door after roasting the chicken and the air-fryer basket wasnt nonstick, making it tough to remove melted cheese from. This model can also accommodate more food than our favorite air fryer, which is helpful if you frequently cook for more than two people.
We maintain strict objectivity in all testing.*

Breville Bov900bs Smart Oven Review
Brevilles BOV900BS Smart Oven is one of the companys most popular products in this category.
As well as providing the versatility of a standard countertop oven, it also comes with cooking presets. Some of these are designed for specific tasks like air frying and dehydrating food. That means you dont need to spend more money than you have to, on extra devices to get those jobs done.
If youre looking for an all-in-one alternative to a regular oven, its a really good option.
Keep in mind that while it has an impressive interior size, its not going to be suitable for replacing your standard oven completely. Thats especially true if you like to host a lot of guests in one sitting.
Pros
- A massive cooking interior, capable of handling even a roast turkey.
- Proofing, dehydrating and air frying modes mean you dont have to buy lots of different appliances.
- Cleans very easily.
- Extremely quick to pre-heat, needing only a few minutes to get going.
- Very accurate temperature control.
Cons
- A jack of all trades appliance means some compromise. Air frying results in particular are not as good as youd get from a dedicated appliance.
- Fans can make a fair bit of noise, especially when running in Super mode.
- Pricier than some of the alternatives on the market.
- Light disables automatically after 30 seconds. Youll need to activate it manually to check in on whats cooking.
- Simple toasting jobs take longer than they would do with a regular toaster
