Cooking Brussels Sprouts In Instant Pot
Step 2. Pour the cream into the Instant Pot and add the garlic and onion powders, salt and pepper. Add the Brussels sprouts and 1/4 cup of water and stir through gently.
Step 3. Secure and lock the lid. Set to Pressure Cook/Manual and adjust the time to ZERO minutes on HIGH. Thats right, zero minutes simply means that majority of cooking will happen while the Instant Pot is coming to pressure.
If you like soft Brussels sprouts OR you are using whole, unhalved sprouts, set to 1 minute on HIGH.
Once the timer is done, release the pressure immediately using the quick release. Remember that the Brussels sprouts will continue to cook if the pot remains on natural release. You may get away with 1 minute on NPR, but as it gets more than 2 minutes, we found our Brussels sprouts got too soft.
Step 4. Open the lid. At a first glance, it will look like the cream curdled but dont worry, simply stir the sprouts into the sauce and it will melt back in.

To make these easy balsamic roasted Brussels sprouts, you’ll need some fresh Brussels sprouts, extra virgin olive oil, mustard, maple syrup, balsamic vinegar, hot sauce , and some fresh parsley for garnishing.
We encourage you to seek out whole grain brown mustard because the mustard seeds add a pleasant crunch to the Brussels sprouts. If you can’t find any, use Dijon mustard instead. Be sure to use 100% pure maple syrup here not artificial pancake syrup. As an alternative, you can use honey.
Choose Your Brussels Sprouts Wisely
When youre at the grocery store, look for bright green Brussels sprouts with intact outer leaves. They should feel firm when gently squeezed. Smaller sprouts are typically more tender and sweet, but try to choose sprouts that are roughly the same size so theyre done around the same time. Store unused Brussels sprouts in a bag in the vegetable drawer. They should keep well for 7 to 10 days.

Are Brussels Sprouts Just Small Cabbages
While Brussels sprouts look like little tiny adorable cabbages, they are actually not the same thing at all. Brussels sprouts are the buds found on long stalks that are covered with them.
When you go to the market, you can buy them on or off the stalk. Small brussels sprouts have a sweet flavor, and they are more tender. If you would prefer them to taste more like cabbage, pick the larger brussels sprouts. They will last in the fridge uncooked for around 3 to 7 days.
How To Roast The Best Brussels Sprouts
Roasted Brussels sprouts are my sister Karen’s contribution to our holiday dinners. Ridiculously easy to make, there’s not much to it.
You can roast them right in a cast iron frying pan in the oven, which is helpful if your regular roasting pan is already in use. And a large cast iron pan is just the right size to hold a pound of sprouts.

When trimming and cleaning your Brussels sprouts:
- First, slice off the base where the rounds were attached to the stalk. Place them all in a large bowl and soak in cool water for about 10 minutes to remove any remaining sediment. Rinse, then pat dry with paper towels.
- If any outer leaves are damaged, go ahead and discard those. Healthy looking leaves can be added to the sheet pan these get extra crispy !
- Cut any extra large sprouts in half through the stem, then continue with the recipe as directed.
Prep The Brussels Sprouts
First things first, preheat your oven to 425 F so that it’s ready to go after you prepare the sprouts. Now, it’s time to focus on the little vegetables start by rinsing and patting your Brussels sprouts dry with a kitchen towel. Next, trim the ends and pull off any outer leaves that look brown or are wilted. Then halve the sprouts lengthwise, which will not only help them cook more evenly, but it makes them more bite-sized.

- In the U.S, brussels sprouts are in season from September through March, although you can find them year-round.
- Ideally choose sprouts that are roughly the same size, this means theyll be done around the same time.
- Ready brussels sprouts should feel firm when gently squeezed.

- I highly recommend that you wash the sprouts very well and peel a couple leaves from the outside before you prepare them. I know some bags say pre-washed and everything on it, but almost 80% of the time you will find dirt or weird things underneath the first couple of leaves!
- Use a preheated oven.
- Leave the sprouts alone! You dont have to worry about turning the sprouts over while cooking. If you roast flat side down, the moisture in the sprouts will cook the centers to tender perfection!
- Spray the oil onto the sprouts before seasoning, this allows the spices to stick.
- I use my most favorite, super simple spices that are always in my drawer: paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, black pepper and salt. They make a perfect blend and very simple for kids to eats.
- Roast the sprouts until they are golden on the flat sides and can be easily pierced with a fork.
