How To Build Your Own High
You dont have to break a bank in order to build yourself a fantastic high-performing wood-fired pizza oven! This Youtuber right here enjoys delicious wood-fired pizzas straight from his DIY pizza oven, and the best part is that he only spent about 50 bucks on building the oven.
All you need is 47 little red bricks and two big bricks, which you can get at any nearby home supply place. This DIY pizza oven has to be the cheapest high-performance pizza oven ever!
Build The Pizza Oven Base
Whether you buy a ready-made pizza oven insert or build your own dome , your pizza oven needs a solid, level base.
- Built it on a sturdy surface that will not shift or settle. A concrete slab reinforced with rebar mesh is the safest option.
- Because the base must support a few thousand pounds of brick, stone and mortar, concrete block is preferred.
- If you buy an insert, the manufacturer usually includes specs for how tall and wide your base needs to be. If youre building everything on your own, draw out a design that considers the overall height of the base as well as the oven door placement. Decide on a height thats comfortable for those using the oven the most.
Pro tip: Design your concrete base in a U shape, and use the space under the oven for wood storage.

Make A Base With Insulation For Your Outdoor Pizza Oven
The cob ovens we made in class had a base of sheet metal bolted onto a wood frame to be portable, then placed on a sturdy foundation at their new home.
If you are building a wood fired outdoor pizza oven directly in your backyard, then consider the following keys to a foundation: stability, height, and insulation.
1. stability: a foundation can be built out of any sturdy materials such as broken concrete, bricks, firebricks, masonry block, stone, rocks, old tables or even wooden pallets, as long as it can hold an oven without sinking and shifting.
2. height: the foundation should support your oven at a height that allows you to work comfortably!
3. insulation: there should be a minimum of 4-6 of insulation between the fire brick oven floor and the masonry or wood foundation. The insulation will prevent the masonry from absorbing all the valuable heat we want for cooking, and protect the wood foundation from burning. The glass jars and vermiculite provide insulation. The fire brick hearth is set on top of that.

Insert the metal duct into the top opening of the dome. Make sure that it extends no farther down than the inside wall of the top of the dome. One of our favorites is homemade pizza which has a really crispy crust and tastes amazing with tons of cheese on top. Here are some basic steps to help you get started with making your very own homemade pizza!
1. Start By Mixing Your Own Pizza Dough
You can easily buy pre-made dough at the store, but it wont taste nearly as good if you use something thats already made ahead of time. We recommend using a stand mixer instead of mixing everything by hand because itll come out much fluffier and airy that way.
Once youve reached the correct consistency then just wrap the dough in some cling film before sticking it into the fridge for about an hour or two in order to chill.
2. Prepare The Toppings
If you want to add anything like meats , onions, peppers and tomatoes then make sure to cook them beforehand to help get rid of the excess fat before cooking.
3. Add Some Flavor
4. Prep The Oven And Fire Bricks
5. Bake The Pizza
6. Remove And Enjoy

If you used bricks to build the dome you might want to render the outside smooth with some more heatproof screed. Then cover the outside of the dome with ceramic fibre blanket at least 25mm thick. Use the oven wire mesh to keep it in position while you render over it with Outdoor Oven Cement to around a thickness of 10mm.
This layer can be painted with an outdoor masonry paint at this stage or you might want to make a more elaborate decoration by tiling the outside of the oven for example. The possibilities are only limited by your imagination!

Continuing With Doorway And Chimney
Build an arch over the doorway using half face bricks over the formwork.
Begin building up the chimney behind the arch. The actual cross sectional area of the chimney flue is only the size of one brick. It was a bit tricky as the first course of the chimney cantilevered off the doorway walls and required some temporary support.
The taller the chimney, the better the draw so build as high as you can reach or afford!
We completed the front wall of the barrel, cutting bricks as required to fit the arch.
