  • How Do I Cook Ribs In The Oven At 350

The regular cooking time for pork ribs in the oven at 350 degrees is around 2 hours for baby ribs, 2.5 hours for spare ribs, and 20 to 30 minutes for bone-in country-style ribs until they are tender.

What is the best temp to cook ribs?

Preheat your smoker, charcoal grill, or gas grill to 225°F the ideal temperature for cooking ribs. Smoke/slow cook for 3 hours using indirect heat. Wrap the ribs in foil with some liquid and continue cooking for 2 hours.

    The Best Ribs For Baking

Youll commonly see two main types of ribs. Both can successfully be made in the oven.

    Spareribs

The first type is spareribs, which are also called St. Louis-style ribs . These ribs are larger and meatier than other varieties of ribs. They also tend to be fattier since they come from the ribs closer to the belly of the pig. Note that spareribs often require a longer cook time than baby back ribs.

    Baby Back Ribs

The second type of ribs is baby back ribs, also called loin back ribs. These ribs are smaller and leaner than spareribs and come from the ribs closer to the loin of the pig. Because their meat comes from the loin region, baby back ribs tend to be more tender and expensive than spareribs. Learn more about the different types of pork you can find at your local butcher.

Can I Finish My Ribs In The Oven

Yes! If youre smoking the beef ribs, you can still finish it in the oven. This would help make it more tender and lock in the flavor.

Simply preheat your oven to 250° F on the last 20 to 30 minutes of smoking the ribs. Then transfer the ribs to a foil-lined baking pan and cover it with another foil on top to seal the steam. Leave it in the oven for another 2 hours.

Baste it with your preferred BBQ sauce in the last 20 minutes and put back in the oven uncovered.

Have you ever craved for a tender, juicy, fall off the bone beef rib but its too cold outside to grill? I know I have. Way too many times that the hubby and I eventually figured out how to make mouthwatering beef ribs in oven.

Now we can have perfectly baked beef ribs at any time of the year. It may be hard to believe because of how sinfully tasty it is but beef ribs are actually healthy.

They are rich in protein, vitamin B12, and zinc. And no, this is not just me convincing myself its okay to have this like 2 or 3 times a week!

Choose The Right Cut Of Beef

Short ribs have traditionally been an underused cut of beef, but are becoming more fashionable as American barbecue food has really taken off in the UK. Also known as Jacobs ladder or brisket on the bone, short ribs come as either a single 3-4kg, six-bone piece, or in single- portion individual rib pieces, which is what you need for my recipe. I like them because they have the perfect meat-to-fat ratio. They slow-cook beautifully without drying out, yet the end result isnt fatty like pork belly.

How To Cook Ribs In The Oven

Now that we’ve done the overnight marinating, let’s move on to the next step.

    Step 1: Preheat your oven

Again, to get the beef nicely done, the idea is to cook the ribs gently over low heat in the oven. Preheat to 225 ° Fahrenheit or 110°C.

Step 2: Wrap your ribs in a foil made of aluminum

Cover them with several layers of foil, ensuring the juice cannot escape. As for me, I like to place the ribs on a baking sheet so as not to mess up the bottom of my oven.

It would be best if you wrapped them so you can check the cooking by cracking the foil on top.

However, if you have to open the ribs completely during cooking, you will lose a lot of the precious cooking juices. Then your oven will be a mess, and the cleaning will take longer.

    Step 3: Begin cooking

Ensure that you place the flesh side down in your oven as I always advise when preparing pork ribs in the oven. Cover them when you’re done. Let the beef ribs cook for up to three hours without opening or touching them. The juice will take advantage of this to flow out but will remain in the foil with the meat, and they will become both tender and succulent.

Make sure the oven temperature remains stable at 225 degrees. If your oven tends to heat too much or too little, adjust the setting while cooking.

    Step 4: Check the cooking

How To Make Baked Beef Ribs

First of all, preheat your oven to 275 degrees F. Cover the inside of a baking pan with aluminum foil.

Coat the foil with olive oil or avocado oil. This keeps the meat from sticking.

Place the ribs on the baking sheet in a single layer. Brush liquid smoke over the top if you like a smoked flavor.

Next, sprinkle salt and pepper over the top. I go light on the salt because the barbecue sauce has salt in it.

Cover the ribs with another piece of foil and seal the edges all the way around. This keeps the steam inside as they cook, helping to tenderize the ribs.

Bake ribs in the preheated oven for 2-1/2 hours. I know this seems like a long time, but youre cooking on low heat.

If youre not as concerned about tenderizing the ribs, the first time you put them in the oven, you can cook them on medium or medium high heat350 or 400 F for 1-1/2 hours. I like them tender.

This is the worst part of baking ribs for me. Waiting has never been my strong suit.

Take the ribs out of the oven and remove the top layer of foil. If you want bbq ribs, brush the barbecue sauce all over them.

Return ribs to the oven and turn up the heat to 350 F.

    Bake for 20 more minutes.

CRAZY JUICY BEEF BACK RIBS (OVEN BAKED AND SO EASY!) | SAM THE COOKING GUY

Beef chuck ribs are a type of short rib that comes from the beef stomach, while beef back ribs come from higher up on the steer. Chuck ribs are very meaty and marbled with fat, while back ribs are leaner and have less meat because most of the meat stays on the rib roast. Back ribs have a more intense, meaty flavor and are better for barbecue, while chuck ribs are fattier.

How To Choose The Best Ribs

The first step to perfectly cooked ribs in the oven is buying the best ribs possible. Not all ribs are created equal and knowing what to look for when youre at the butcher is key. Heres what to look for:

    Meaty Ribs

When shopping for ribs, pay attention to their meat coverage. Avoid choosing ribs with thin patches of meat or completely exposed rib bones without any meat coverage. Ribs should be plump with an even thickness of meat from rib to rib. This ensures the ribs cook evenly in the oven.

    Fat

Regardless of the type of ribs you buy, you want to see some fat. However, avoid ribs with large concentrations of fat in one area of the rack. Look for racks with fat that is evenly spaced and well-marbled throughout.

    Color and Texture

Ribs that are fresh and not previously frozen are always the best route to go. If youre unsure if the ribs youre considering were frozen, check for any discoloration or rough, dry edges. This can indicate freezer burn from prolonged storage in the freezer.

    Size

If youre buying multiple racks to serve a family, look for racks that are similar in size. This ensures each slab will cook evenly and limit the chance for smaller racks of ribs to dry out before the larger racks come to temperature.

Red Wine Braised Short Ribs In The Oven

    • Oven – Preheat the oven to 150°C/ 300°F/ Gas Mark 4
    • Sear – In a large Dutch oven pot or heavy bottom pot, over medium-high heat, add a tablespoon of olive oil and sear the short ribs on all sides for two to three minutes. Then, remove from the pan and set aside.Pro tip – Do this in batches so you don’t crowd the pan. Caramelization enhances the flavor so don’t rush.
    • Saute – To the same pan, add the remaining olive oil and saute the garlic, onions, and baby potatoes. Saute on medium heat for 3 to 5 minutes until lightly colored. Then, return the short ribs back to the pan making sure to distribute them among the veggies.
    • Braise – Reduce to medium-low heat and add the red wine. Simmer uncovered for 5 minutes. Then, add the broth or stock.
    • Spice/Herbs – Next, add the powdered and whole spices and fresh herbs making sure to distribute them evenly across the pan. Season with salt and pepper. Add the lemon juice followed by 2 cups of water and bring to a boil.
    • Oven – Cover the pan and transfer to the oven. Leave to cook for 3 to 4 hours until tender. Stir every hour to ensure there is enough water in the pan.Pro tip – The pan must be airtight to prevent steam from escaping. Otherwise, you will need to add more water often.
    • Garnish – When the short ribs are tender, take the pan out of the oven and sprinkle with fresh parsley.

    Why Make This Recipe

    • The meat turns tender, and the taste is out of this world!
    • Short ribs soaked in red wine are not for the faint of heart. The flavors are rich and robust starting with the stovetop and then into the oven.
    • Most of the ingredients used are pastry staples or easy to find.
    • And while the process is not complicated, the recipe does need time to slow cook in the oven. So, yes, this recipe takes 4-5 hours to complete.
    • Also, we love to serve these over skinny mashed potatoes but white steamed rice or creamy polenta would work just as well. And my absolute favorite is crust bread, such as ciabatta or baguette, to soak up all those rich sauces.
    • Leftovers can be kept in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 4 to 5 days. Or freeze in the freezer for a month. Thaw in the fridge for best results.

Whats The Difference Between Beef Short Ribs And Beef Back Ribs

Beef back ribs are cut from the upper portion of the rib near the spine. They have a slight curve to them and the meat from those ribs comes from between the bones.

Beef short ribs are cut from the same rib but further down on the steer. The meat on these ribs comes from on top of the rib and is usually plentiful. See examples below:

    Beef Back RibsBeef Short Ribs

Beef short ribs have more meat on the bone, but they take considerably longer to cook. Beef back ribs are cut off the ribeye roll .

Because the real money for a butcher comes from the ribeye, they tend to trim the bones as close as possible to maximize profit. So, the meat on a back rib isnt as abundant as on a short rib.

Difference Between Beef Short Ribs And Beef Back Ribs:

    Oven Baked BBQ Beef Ribs

Short ribs are smaller than beef back ribs and are located more to the breastbone or underside of the cow. Conversely back ribs come from the ribs nearest to the shoulder of the cow, closest to spine.

Visually, short ribs are smaller and the meat is on top of the bone. Back ribs are elongated / longer and the meat is in the middle of the bones.

Interesting enough, the cooking method is the same for both cuts because they’re a tough cut with bones, if that makes sense. Low and slow cooked in the oven or crockpot for both beef rib cuts.

Beef short ribs are also expensive. If you’re looking for a more economical cut, check out my BBQ oven baked Beef Back Ribs. These ribs are the bones that are cut off from a Prime Rib Roast. They may not be as meaty but they are just as delicious.

Lay the beef bone side down and fat side up while cooking in the oven. The bone is on the far left in this close up of a short rib. The left side with the bone will face down.
