Euro-pro Toaster Oven Extra Large

The Euro Pro Toaster Oven Is A Decently Priced Unit

Best Toaster Oven of 2022 | The 4 Best Toaster Ovens Review

We purchased this toaster oven after much shopping and comparing of brands and models. It was reasonably priced, didn’t take up too much counter space, and had good interior space. One drawback is that it doesn’t have a digital display, it has knobs for selecting the cooking setting and temperature. Sometimes this seems to be an issue, because when I think it is set at the correct temperature it will cook a little hotter than what I wanted. Another thing that kind of bothers me is the ticking sound it makes when you are using the timer. So I often find myself setting it to stay on, and then using the timer on my microwave instead. The white finish of the unit makes it easy to match with any decor. I prefer that to the industrial look of stainless steel. However, after using the toaster oven for awhile, I began noticing brownish spots on top of the unit. Kind of like paint discolorations. I have been unable to remove them with cleaning, and this make the toaster oven look bad. Overall, this unit does work good for the price I paid for it. It is a no frills economy unit.

How to know if yours does?

    Look on your control panel.

If your toaster oven is digital, check for a small button with a fan symbol or a button labeled Conv or Convection. If your toaster oven has only knobs check the Cooking Functions Knob for a setting labeled Convection or Turbo.

A few convection toaster ovens, like the older Kitchenaid Convection Countertop models do not have a button or separate function to select convection.

These toaster ovens usually activate the fan every time its used and the fan cannot be turned off.

Some toaster ovens, like our Breville Smart Oven Pro automatically select the convection feature when using specific functions like Bake, Roast, Pizza, Cookie and Reheat.

To turn it off just push the convection button until the fan icon disappears from the screen.

Its important to note if your toaster oven auto selects convection as you need to make adjustments to your recipes time and temperature when cooking with convection.

So Easy And Practical I Love It

I purchased the Euro Pro 6 slice toaster a little less then a year ago at a benefit for one of my fiances uncles’ who had cancer At first i didn’t think i was really going to use it much and just thought donating the money was why i got it. . Truth is we just moved in our house just after i got it and i honestly make any thing and everything in it. I use it as much as possible because for one it can make almost anything and everything and for another its better then using the microwave and definatly saves you tons of money since you aren’t using the stove!!!!!its so practical and convinient to use for quick meals and quick lunches like pizza rolls, small pizzas, muffins, fries, snacks, and soooo much more! It comes with 2 trays also and it allows you to bake, broil, and toast and just heat up things! I really love using it to heat up cold pizza and to make chicken nuggets and fries and well everything in it! i love it and i think everyone needs it to make quick meals and it uses less energy and doesn’t heat up your house on hot summer days like the oven does!!! Recommended for everyone!!!!

How To Use A Convection Toaster Oven

Are your dishes missing a crispy on the outside and tender on the inside finish?

Then the convection setting is just what you need and weve got two easy tips that will get you success.

  • Reduce your toaster ovens temperature by 25 degrees from what the recipe instructions call for.
  • Check for doneness 2/3 to 3/4 through the cooking time called for in your recipe, adding time as needed.
  • You should use those conversions any time you try a new recipe in your toaster oven with the convection fan on.

Get The Most Out Of Cooking With Convection

The circulating hot air is your superstar here and there are a few things you can do to help it shine.

    • Use pans with low sides . Think roasting pans and unrimmed baking sheets. Dont run out and buy new pans though, we use rimmed baking sheets and get great results too.
    • More isnt always better. If there isnt space between your food and the top of the toaster oven the air cant do its job and circulate.
    • Avoid covering your food. Covering your food with either a lid or foil will keep the air from directly circulating around it.

Where Should I Put The Rack?

For the best results check your manuals suggested placement for the function you are using with the convection fan.

If no placements are given, the middle or bottom rack position are your best bet. Just make sure your food item is a safe distance from the top elements.

Great Toaster Oven For The Price

I purchased the Euro Pro 6 slice toaster oven right after Christmas last year. Since then I have used it quite a bit. Since I live in Florida,I don’t always want to use my other oven for cooking small things such as frozen pizza, pizza rolls , or other such things. This oven is great for that. I have a small family so it is much easier to use this then the other oven and it does not heat up the kitchen as much as the other oven. It bakes, broils, grills and toasts. I use it for baked potaotes , which come out great. I have broiled small ham steaks in it. The only thing I don’t like about it is the way it toasts. You have to watch it and it takes longer then a convential toaster. It does do 6 slices at one time but the back slices get done darker then the front so you have to either keep an eye on it or switch the pieces around. Other then that I love it. It is wide so you can fit small bake pans in it. I looked at reviews for this product and most of them say the same thing about the toast. I was aware of this when I bought but I will still recommend for a small family or single person.

What Is A Convection Toaster Oven

A convection toaster oven is a standard toaster oven but with a built-in fan.

Yeah, a fan doesnt sound nearly as exciting as a custom pizza function, rotisserie option or baked cookies setting. But the truth is a fan is better than any of those fancy bells and whistles youre barely going to use.

Okay, but whats the difference between cooking with a conventional toaster oven vs. a convection toaster oven?

This video from CNET does a good job explaining the difference between conventional and convection heating. Its in relation to full-sized ovens but the principals are the same for your toaster oven.

Basically, conventional toaster ovens use 3 main sources of heat to cook food with the Bake setting:

  • Radiant heat emanating directly from the heating elements and metal walls.
  • Warm air within the toaster oven that surrounds your food
  • Conduction from the baking pan to the item inside it.
  • A convection toaster oven uses the same 3 heat sources but source #2 is super-charged by a fan.

The convection fan forces air warmed from the heating elements to circulate around the inside of your toaster oven which

    • Increases your toaster ovens temperature but keeps it consistent and accurate
    • Removes moisture and encourages browning
    • Cooks food faster and more evenly

What About Cooking Chicken Pork And Beef

While weve never cooked meat in our toaster oven we didnt want to leave you hanging.

The only book we could find on the subject at the library was Cooking with Convection by Beatrice A. Ojakangas. Its about full-sized ovens but her directions are the same for reducing the cooking time and temperature.

The author suggests using a meat probe or an instant-read thermometer to check the doneness of your protein.

If youre looking for a quality thermometer Americas Test Kitchen voted the Thermapen by ThermoWorks as their number one selection and the ThermoPop as the best budget selection.

We own the ThermoPop and use it when cooking frozen meals it definitely lives up to the hype and would make a great holiday gift for your favorite toaster oven cook.

For a simple Temperature Guide check out Fine Cookings Safe, but Not Overcooked article. In addition to cooking temperature guidelines, its got helpful tips about carryover cooking and using larger cuts of meat.

And if youre looking for meaty recipe inspiration we found some videos of Chef Ming Tsai roasting and baking with the convection setting on the Breville Smart Oven Pro.

Can You Show Me How Food Cooks Differently If I Use Convection

Absolutely. Lets see how things go with a few pieces of pre-made chocolate chip cookie dough.

First, lets bake some test cookies without convection and use the package directions of 350°F for 12 to 16 minutes.

This is why test cookies are important!

Even though the directions said 12 minutes the cookies were done at 11 minutes. If we made another batch wed take them out around 10 minutes.

Okay, so what happens if I use convection but make no adjustments to the baking temperature or time?

Your cookies might look like these ones that were baked at 350°F with the convection fan on for 10 minutes.

I know what youre thinking. Theyre certainly overdone but dont look too bad.

    Looks can be deceiving.

The cookies were terrible: dry and crumbly with zero flavor.

Okay, so if I use convection, lower the temperature by 25 degrees and check on it early what does that look like?

Hopefully, like these guys that were baked at 325°F with the convection fan on for 9 minutes.

Crispy edges with a gooey just-cooked middle, now thats a tasty chocolate chip cookie.

When I handed one to Tim he said: Mmmm, just like at the mall

We hope this little cookie experiment was helpful in understanding how cooking with convection affects your food and the small changes you can make to be more successful using it with your toaster oven.

Does Convection Work The Same For Every Recipe

    That would be awesome.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of things that will affect your recipe, from your toaster ovens heating to your ingredients.

The Lower Temperature 25° and Cook for 1/4 Less Time is a good starting place. But youll still need to do some tasty experimenting to discover what works for your little oven.

Take this roasted cauliflower, our original recipe was created using a conventional toaster oven and takes between 25 to 35 minutes to cook.

Roasting it with the convection on and the temperature reduced from 450 to 425 it took about 25 minutes to become browned and fork tender.

In our toaster oven, it seems like vegetables dont cook much faster with convection. But they do get crispier and taste fantastic, especially these easy sriracha roasted red potatoes.

Until you get comfortable with how your toaster oven cooks, reduce the temperature for every recipe.

You can always cook something longer but once the damage is done you cant cook it less!

Awesome Performance For 3 Years And Counting

My husband and I received this TO 156 Extra-Large-Capacity 6-Slice Toaster Ovenas a wedding present about 3 years ago. We registered for it at our local mega homegoods supply store. What most attracted us to it was the double rack feature. We can toast six peices of bread at a time, or veggie burgers in the broiler pan on top, and 3-4 buns on the bottom. There are other useful features too: in- use light, stay- on feature, a timer , functions of warm, toast, broil, bake, and a knob to vary the oven’s heat in degrees, like a regular oven. The crumb tray on the bottom removes easily, and the coils are covered. This toaster oven is the easiest I have ever had to clean, even with a white exterior…the inside has easy-to-wipe-down side walls. We have used it multiple times almost every day and never had a problem with it!Pros: Easy to clean, doesn’t heat up the house, broiler panCons: Very powerful toaster, may burn your bread!

What Are The Best Foods To Cook With Convection

Thats going to depend on your own taste and texture preferences.

Weve found its best for items that youd like to be crispy outside but tender inside. Foods like fries, buttery pastries, pizzas, roasted vegetables, biscuits, and cookies.

    What about cake?

Youve probably heard that you shouldnt use convection to cook cakes, muffins, and quick bread because it can dry them out. Weve even shared that advice before.

Heres the thing, we were wrong.

After months of researching temperature tests and toaster oven baking pans, weve realized that applying the everyone says rules of cooking rarely works the same for toaster ovens.

So we decided to give convection a try with a small batch of Lemon Olive Oil Cupcakes.

The result was light and tender lemony cupcakes.

But one positive experience isnt enough to say its a good idea all of the time, right?

So the verdict is still out but we do plan to keep trying baking with convection and will update you with our results.
