How To Air Fry In A Convection Oven
Convection ovens can be used for air frying, saving you space and reducing the need for another appliance. To air fry in a convection oven, you need to place your food in a basket that allows better air circulation. In the tray, be sure to space the ingredients so that the air can come into contact with each part of the food. In countertop fryers and convection ovens, food is typically cooked 20-25°C lower than traditional ovens, but you should always check the cooking instructions before cooking. to start. Since convection ovens are larger, air frying can take longer than with a traditional fryer. So be sure to observe your food carefully to find out if it should brown longer or shorter.
In Short: How Does A Hot Air Fryer Work
In an airfryer, air is heated to a maximum temperature of 200 degrees Celsius. Most fryers allow you to adjust the temperature manually via a digital display or analog knob. Depending on the brand and type of fryer, it is possible to set the temperature manually. Some fryers have a control panel for setting time and temperature. Other fryers only allow you to adjust the cooking time, but they are quite rare. The constant swirl of hot air cooks the dish and creates a crispy crust. The cooking time to be set depends on the dish and the recipe.
Hot air is blown through an exhaust grille. Usually there is no need to add oil to your dish, so frying fat is a thing of the past. However, some dishes, such as fresh homemade fries, may require a little oil to become properly crispy. But it is actually a drop of oil.
How To Turn Your Oven Into An Air Fryer
Can you air fry in the oven? Sort of. Some ovens come with a convection setting. This means you can switch on a fan to circulate hot air inside your oven while the top and bottom heating elements are running, which is the key to maximum crisp.
Mandy Sacher, cookbook author and Global Chief Nutrition Officer at MindChamps Australia, says it’s challenging to get the same air-fried crispy texture in an oven. But there are some ways to ensure your food is well-baked.
“It’s all about the flow of air and high heat , but that’s how it gets crispy,” she says.
“Use fan-forced settings and high heat temperatures. For extra crispiness, the heat must hit the food and seal it in.”
“Make sure the food you are trying to brown is cut into small pieces, which creates more surface area for the food to brown. You also want to turn the food halfway through for extra crunch.”

What Is Air Fryer Cooking
An air fryer is similar to a convection oven in that it cooks your food using hot air instead of hot oil.
It features a heating element at the top that is accompanied by a mechanical fan. The heating element helps to heat the air inside the air fryer to cooking temperatures while the fan helps to circulate the hot air for even cooking of the food.
Air frying results in crunchy and crispy results, just like in deep frying. The only difference is that an air fryer uses little to no oil to cook your food.
A conventional oven requires time to preheat before you can start cooking. Additionally, it takes time for the air inside to heat to cooking temperatures due to the large capacity. On the other hand, an air fryer doesn’t require time to preheat, and it has a compact size that ensures it heats up quickly. The food is also near the heat source, which ensures it cooks fast and evenly.
An air fryer is also popular among users due to its ease of cleaning. Some parts of the appliance, including the air fryer basket and the racks, are dishwasher safe. As such, you only need to toss them in the dishwasher after use. For the parts that are not dishwasher safe, you can use a dish brush to clean them.

What To Air Fry
An air fryer delivers incredible versatility and capability, able to cook many items that were traditionally relegated to the stovetop or oven. You can count on an air fryer to cook foods like chicken nuggets and tenders, french fries, onion rings, vegetables, pizza, chicken wings, even cookies and donuts, just to name a few.
Benefits of air-frying
You can make a variety of meals with only an air fryer
Air frying presents a whole host of benefits for your diet and health:
- Weight loss: Fried foods are linked to high obesity rates due to the high calories and amounts of fat that goes into them. Think about it: you’re basically soaking your food in hot oil to cook it. When you remove the oil required for traditional frying methods, you are rewarded with food that is healthier and, in turn, promotes a healthy weight.
- Disease prevention: Vegetable oil is linked to inflammation and a higher risk of heart disease and higher rates of inflammation. By significantly reducing the amount of oil that you choose, you can lower your chances of illness and disease.
How Do The Air Fry Ranges Perform
Getting your frozen fries to be crispy is easy with certain air fryer settings.
Performance for these ovens differs across the board. When we first began testing ranges with built-in air fry capability, we found the gas-powered Frigidaire Gallery FGGH3047VF and the electric Frigidaire Gallery FGEH3047VF to have quite well-performing built-in air fryers.
We found the same was true of the LG LRGL5825F, whose air fry mode performed excellently, although you have to purchase the proprietary air fryer basket separately. The GE Profile PHS93XYPFS, on the other hand, had underwhelming air fryer performance.
We air fried copious amounts of frozen French fries to learn how each oven’s air fry settings perform. As with many air fry products, it takes a little trial and error to figure out the perfect formulabut the results are worth it. Here are some examples from our testing:
When we used the Frigidaire ReadyCook Air Fry Tray and the Air Fry mode in the Frigidaire Gallery FGGH3047VF, our results were much better than in standard bake mode. Not only did all 43 ounces of frozen French fries fit onto the tray, but after 30 minutes, all of the fries that were not on the outer edge of the tray had been cooked evenly all the way through. And there was no oily residue.
While the fries on the outer edge of the tray were burnt, thats a good indication that heat is flowing efficiently through your fried foods, even if it’s moving a little too efficiently at the tray’s edges.

When To Use The Air Fryer Instead Of The Oven
Whether you’re looking to make baked goods, heat up your favorite prepared frozen foods or even reheat leftovers, the air fryer can do pretty much all of it. Air fryers have become popular because they are small but mighty, and don’t take up too much space in your kitchen. If you aren’t prepping for a large crowd and are only making small batches of food at a time, the air fryer is the way to go.
“The fan and heating mechanism of the air fryer spins at higher speeds, making the food crispier than in a regular convection oven,” explains Rhythm of the Home founder Stefan Bucur. “You should always use an air fryer for things like fries and wings because they are small enough to fit, and they always taste better with the added crispiness of the air fryer.”

Converting Recipes To The Air Fryer
Many recipes that use traditional methods can be converted to delicious air frying creations!
Can I Cook That in An Air Fryer?
This is a question I get a lot, and the answer isyes, you can! Just like any pan that you can put in your oven, you can put in your air fryer, the same rule applies to food. Any food you can cook in your oven, you can air fry. This may seem obvious, but where to start? What time, what temp? You dont want to ruin your dinner OR waste food, so with a couple of simple tips you can successfully air fry everything! Well, just about everything.
Converting From Traditional Oven Recipes
You can use your air fryer to cook recipes that have instructions for cooking in the oven. Because the heat in the air fryer is more intense than a standard oven, reduce the suggested temperature by 25ºF to 50ºF and cut the time by roughly 20%. So, if a recipe calls for cooking in the oven at 425ºF for 60 minutes , instead you can air-fry the food at 400ºF for about 40 minutes.
Some of the recipes on this website have instructions for multiple appliances. For those recipes that dont, or for your favorite recipe from another author, try using the cooking charts on this page to help determine the right cooking time for foods. Always remember to turn foods over halfway through the cooking time and check the foods for your desired degree of doneness as you approach the finish line.

Convection Air Fryer Oven
The most common type of Air Fryer is a convection oven. It uses an electric heating element to heat up fresh, moist warm circulating air . You set the temperature, and it adjusts to it.
The temperature will remain constant as long as the food in the oven is not blocking the circulating air. The only disadvantage of this air fryer is that you will have to wait a little longer time for food to cook than in a forced-air fryer.
When food is ready, it will be crispier on the outside and softer on the inside than in an infrared oven.
Prepare Your Turkey And Oven
Preparing your turkey for air frying is a little different from using other cooking methods, such as oven roasting. Read below for our air frying tips:
For an extra flavorful turkey, brine it in advance. There are wet or dry brining methods, so browse some recipes and decide which works best for you.
If you want to bake the stuffing inside the turkey, don’t put the stuffing in the cavity until right before the bird goes in the oven. This will help avoid bacteria growth.
Check if your oven is large enough to accommodate your turkey. You can test this out by placing the turkey in your oven before cooking, or by checking the oven’s dimensions and cubic feet in your user manual. You can also find your oven’s cubic feet using the Samsung website.
Do you have a turkey injector? Use it! If you don’t, regular basting will help keep the turkey nice and juicy too. Be sure to save some of the drippings that collect in the pan to make a delicious gravy.

Important Tips To Keep In Mind
- Always have the grate in the basket. This allows hot air to circulate around the food, and also keeps the food from sitting in excess oil.
- Air fryers are loud. When its running, youll hear whirring fans.
- Its hands-on. Even browning requires you to remove the basket and shuffle the food around every few minutes.
- It’s fine to pull out the basket for a peek. You can do this at any point into the cooking process. No need to shut off the machine, as it shuts itself off when the basket is out.
- Accordingly, make sure the drawer is pushed all the way in, or it wont turn back on. Youll know, because the air fryer will be suddenly quiet.
- Food cooks fast, faster than youre used to! Its one of the best attributes of the air fryer. Your air fryers manual likely has a handy table of cooking times and temperatures for common foods. The less food in the basket, the shorter the cook time will be the more food, the longer it will be.
- You may need a slightly lower temperature. A lot of air fryer recipes call for lower temperature settings than their conventional counterparts. This might seem fishy, but just go with it. Once again, air fryers get hot very fast and move that hot air around, so a slightly lower temperature will help keep food from getting too dark or crispy on the outside, while still being properly cooked on the inside.

Is Air Frying A Healthy Alternative To Frying In Oil
You might be wondering if air frying is healthy. By using hot air to cook food, less oil is used than traditional frying, making it a healthier alternative. With an air fryer, food is caramelized or browned by using hot air to dry the surface, which aids the cooking process and results in browning or caramelization. Air frying uses the combination of hot air and oil to brown or caramelize food, but only requires a tablespoon or two of oil, whereas oil frying requires at least four to six cups.
How To ‘fry’ Food In A Toaster Oven
Convection toaster ovens can air-fry in the same way a convection oven can. We tested two models, one from Breville and one from Cuisinart, that have a dedicated air-fry setting. Both perform admirably, doing a great job with frozen curly fries and fresh chicken wings, though all-around performance is better in the Breville.
Both toaster ovens produce wings and fries in about the same time as the oven air fryers using 1 to 3 teaspoons of oil. But, of course, you cant fit in as many wings or fries as you can in an oven.
If you have a toaster oven that has convection but no air-fry setting, try using convection roast , and just as with an oven, use a dark pan to get the best crispy results.

How Air Fryers Work
Your air fryer is like an amazing convection oven. It’s small, yet mighty, and you can roast, broil, or bake in it. You cannot deep fry in it.
Need a refresher on convection cooking? No problem.
Heat rises, so in a regular oven the top rack is always the hottest spot, which leads to uneven doneness.
In a convection oven, however, fans blow hot air around so the temperature is equalized throughout the oven.
Air fryers arent exactly like convection ovens their airflow is designed to more closely replicate the heat distribution of deep-frying in hot fat. But for our purposes, the convection oven analogy is good enough.
Check On The Food Halfway Through
After 10 minutes, open the door and check on the food. If it is not as crispy as you like, cook it for a few minutes longer. Be careful not to overcook the food, or it will be dry and rubbery.
If you want to improve air distribution and get better results during cooking, flip your food. But only do this if its a necessary step for avoiding heat loss in ovens otherwise, there will be more work! Add some extra oil or spray so that crispiness can come out quickly when cooked correctly with these techniques.
Everyone knows not all meats are created equally some need attention while others dont seem too bothered by them at first glance . The key is giving each its own time to shine in the Air Fryer so that every dish is as unique as possible.

Does An Air Fryer Cook Quicker Than An Oven
Yes, an air fryer cooks quicker than a conventional oven. Youve probably noticed that there is a fan inside your air fryer.
This promotes even cooking, allows air to circulate the food, and helps the heat to transfer much faster than a traditional oven. An air fryer can shorten cook time AND make your food crispier!
How To Make Air Fryer Baked Potatoes
I start with my favorite type of potato for baking russets.
I wash and pat them dry. Then I place them in the Air Fryer basket. I give them a light coat of cooking spray.
You can use any type of cooking spray. I am using avocado oil, and it works great. I just rotate the potatoes to be sure and spray them on all sides. This helps crisp up the skin, plus it helps the seasoning to stick to the potato skins.
If you dont have cooking spray, you can use a little drizzle of oil and just rub to coat the potato skins. I would recommend an oil with a high smoke point, such as avocado or even canola.
Next, I sprinkle them generously with sea salt and garlic powder. I use 1/2 teaspoon of each for either 3 or 4 potatoes. I use my hands to spread everything around and make sure it has an even coat.
Then I cook them in the Air Fryer on 400 degrees for about 40 minutes. I did take a peek at them about 25 minutes in to that cook time. The skins were looking pretty brown on top. So I used some tongs and carefully flipped them over.
After forty minutes, mine were perfect!
