A whole rack of ribs can take anywhere from 2 to 3 hours to bake, depending on the quality of your oven and the size of your racks. Ribs should be prepped and ready to go before you start cooking them, so make sure you have all your supplies ready before beginning.

Why Are My Beef Short Ribs So Tough

Short ribs are a type of beef that is often used in cuisine. They are also known as country short ribs and Texas short ribs. The reason why these beef short ribs are so tough is because of the way they are raised. When these beef short ribs are cut, they are typically grilled or barbecued. This process leaves the meat very tough and durable.

    Braise The Short Ribs

slow cooked oven bbq beef ribs

Next, cover the pan and place it in the oven to braise. This process should take about 2-2.5 hours. When the meat has finished cooking, it should feel tender and pull away easily from the bone.

If you don’t want to braise the meat, you can opt to put the contents of the pan in a slow cooker for about 8 hours on the “LOW” setting. The slow cooker process will take longer, but it’s a good option for those who aren’t in a rush or making this meal for dinner.

You also can cover the pan and cook the short ribs over low heat on the stovetop if desired.

How To Make Baked Beef Ribs

First of all, preheat your oven to 275 degrees F. Cover the inside of a baking pan with aluminum foil.

Coat the foil with olive oil or avocado oil. This keeps the meat from sticking.

Place the ribs on the baking sheet in a single layer. Brush liquid smoke over the top if you like a smoked flavor.

Next, sprinkle salt and pepper over the top. I go light on the salt because the barbecue sauce has salt in it.

Cover the ribs with another piece of foil and seal the edges all the way around. This keeps the steam inside as they cook, helping to tenderize the ribs.

Bake ribs in the preheated oven for 2-1/2 hours. I know this seems like a long time, but youre cooking on low heat.

If youre not as concerned about tenderizing the ribs, the first time you put them in the oven, you can cook them on medium or medium high heat350 or 400 F for 1-1/2 hours. I like them tender.

This is the worst part of baking ribs for me. Waiting has never been my strong suit.

Take the ribs out of the oven and remove the top layer of foil. If you want bbq ribs, brush the barbecue sauce all over them.

Return ribs to the oven and turn up the heat to 350 F.

    Bake for 20 more minutes.

Should I Wrap Beef Ribs In Foil

I dont usually wrap my beef ribs since Im aiming for amaximum bark on the meat. If you want to speed up the process, wrap them securely in unwaxed butcher paper at the 170 internal temperature point, which will take around 6 hours. Continue to smoke the ribs until the flesh between the bones is tender to the touch with a fork.

What Side Dish Goes With Oven Baked Beef Ribs

    No

Mom tip: Always serve your oven baked ribs with a side dish. Especially if you have kids.

The side dish contrasts the spiciness of the rib, helping the little ones enjoy it better! This also makes for a healthier, more filling meal.

Potato Salad One of the easiest ones to make, is a good old potato salad. Peel and boil a bunch of halved Yukon potatoes. Then mix mayo, mustard, green onions, a dash of apple cider vinegar, and chopped hard-boiled eggs.

Pour the mixture into the drained potatoes and you have yourself a tasty side dish!

Baked Beans Another quick recipe is baked beans. Fry up some bacon and onions, add molasses, brown sugar, mustard, and 2 to 4 cans of pork and beans.

Transfer to a baking pan and you can put it in the oven with the Ribs for 45 minutes to an hour. Hitting two birds with one stone, arent we?

Mac & Cheese THIS IS THE ULTIMATE COMBINATION. Just imagine it, sticky oven baked beef ribs and creamy mac and cheese all in one plate. Excuse me while I drool over here. Simmer milk in a large pot then add the elbow macaroni.

Once its al dente, add butter, sharp cheddar, and salt and pepper to taste. Fold together until the cheese and butter melts. Just in case you didnt notice, this is all made in ONE POT!

What Causes Short Ribs To Be Tough

Short ribs are a type of meat that is found in cattle and other animals. This means that the bone is broken down, which can create a resistance to chewing.2) another factor that can contribute to short ribs being tough is their diet. Cattle and other animals that eat high-quality meat tend to have tougher muscles than those who dont.3) Another reason why short ribs might be tough is because theyre frequently exposed to heat and moisture.
