How To Know If You Have A Self

If you have a Frigidaire oven, chances are good that it has a self-cleaning feature. This feature is designed to make it easy to clean your oven without having to use harsh chemicals or scrubbing.

There are a few ways to tell if your Frigidaire oven has this feature. First, look for a button or setting on the control panel that says self-clean or clean cycle. If you see this, your oven is most likely self-cleaning.

Another way to tell is to look in the ovens manual. Frigidaire ovens that have the self-cleaning feature will usually have information about it in the manual.

If youre not sure whether your Frigidaire oven has the self-cleaning feature, you can always contact Frigidaire customer service for help.

Cancel The Cleaning Cycle

If it is taking too long for the door to be unlocked, then you need to press the Cancel button to end the cleaning cycle. The reason is obviously that the door will keep being locked if it has an automatic locking feature until the oven has cooled down.

However, you will need to hold your horses for at least 1.5 hours for the oven to cool before opening the door, in case it has a manual lock.

If your frigidaire oven went into the self-cleaning mode, and you have canceled it, you shouldnt try to open it immediately. The internal temperature is above tolerable level, so anything that will come in contact will burn, including your skin. Wait until 30-60 minutes and then try to unlock your oven. It will be unlocked by now. If it doesnt, try using a hanger and pulling up the lock from the right side of the oven door lid. It will disable the lock and you will have access to the oven door.

The self-cleaning feature can help keep your oven clean and free of food debris. If you dont use the self-cleaning feature, you may need to clean the oven more frequently than usual.

This will require time and effort, so it may not be worth it if you dont use the oven often. If your oven doesnt self-clean, your dishwasher likely wont be able to clean it either. Youll need to clean the oven and its dishes in separate steps.

What Is The Difference Between Steam Clean And Self Clean

Self-Cleaning ovens allow you to switch from bake to clean function in just a few minutes with only the push of a button.

The steam typical cleaning mathod is when you add a few tablespoons of water and cleaning solution directly into the baking cavity. Then set the oven for up to 2 hours. Steam oven cleaner gets into every corner between racks, walls, and food to help loosen burnt-on messes.

The steam mixture turns into a dry residue thats easily wiped away without harsh chemicals or cleaner fumes.

While the oven is steaming, you can open the door but do not remove racks from the oven. Then place the rack in the oven before powering up. Since the door will close automatically after placing them.

Frigidaire Oven Steam Clean Vs Self Clean

Below, we talk about the pros and cons of the steam clean feature and the self clean feature.

    Self Clean

The self clean feature is very effective for a heavily soiled oven and requires very little work. However, during the self clean cycle, the oven heats up to very high temperatures. The oven gets so hot that any one who touches it will get burned. This is not safe if you have kids around.

The oven also produces fumes during the cycle which are not safe to inhale. When you go back to using your oven after the self clean cycle, you may notice that it wont turn on. This is because the very high temperature could cause the thermal fuse to burn out. So, even though the self clean cycle is the easiest way to clean an oven, it is also one of the most dangerous ways.

    Steam Clean

The steam clean feature is a lot more friendly than the self clean feature but not anywhere as effective. Even though the steam clean feature is Eco friendly, it wont get rid of any heavy spillovers. If your oven is very dirty and hasnt been cleaned in a while, the steam clean feature wont actually do anything to it. But if your oven is very lightly soiled, the steam clean feature will make it easy for you to wipe off the food bits.

How To Use A Self Cleaning Oven

Frigidaire 30 in. 5.0 cu. ft. Gas Range with Self

A self-cleaning oven is one of the great innovations of modern times. The very first self-cleaning ovens were introduced in 1963 by Thermador and were welcomed as an incredible convenience.

If youve ever cleaned a dirty stove with a chemical cleaner, as I have many times, you would never buy an oven that doesnt have a self-cleaning function. My own home oven, where Ive roasted countless chickens, ducks, and legs of lamb, is of 1948 vintage, and cleaning it is the low point of my spring and fall spruce-ups. However, as director of a testing lab for decades, Ive tested more than my share of self-cleaning wall ovens.

Countless times Ive heard people say that they have a self-cleaning mode in their convection or conventional oven, but they never use it. Theyre afraid that it will smoke or set off the fire alarm. Often, they just dont know how to activate it and arent sufficiently motivated to pull out the manual to get the instructions.

Or, Ill hear folks say they say that their ovens never get dirty. My response to that is, Do you ever roast a chicken or broil a steak? Both of these foods spatter badly in the oven, leaving lots of greasy residue on the oven walls. Likewise, blueberry pies and saucy lasagnas drip onto the oven floor. Convection fans help distribute even temperature, but they also disperse the grease in the cavity.
