Kenmore Oven Won’t Turn On? Replace Control Board #318296822

A Kenmore oven control board regulates the power supply to all the oven components and therefore controls all the oven functions. When the oven is turned on, the control board lights up to indicate power flow. If this doesnt happen, its a definite sign that the control board is defective, and the oven wont heat.

Although a bad oven control board isnt a common issue, when it does happen, theres no other option but to replace the control board.

Failed Main Control Board

About this: Your Kenmore ovens functions are centralized at the main control board. Thats a that receives your settings and then controls the components to make them happen.

The main control board does that by sending electrical signals and power to the relevant components. When it comes to heating up your oven, that means sending power to the igniter or the heating elements.

Whats wrong: Unfortunately, the main control board can also suffer failures for many reasons. The board could have suffered an electrical fault, or excess moisture might be affecting it.

Whatever the cause, a failure in the main control board will stop your oven from working correctly. In this case, the failed board is not sending electricity to the ovens heating components, like the igniter or the heating element.

How to fix it: You should only troubleshoot the main control board after ruling out all the other possibilities listed above.

Unfortunately, the damage or wear on a control board isnt always visible. You might sometimes see burn marks, but thats only if the board suffers an electrical fault.

Once youre sure that the control board is the root cause of your oven problems, youll have to remove the one you have. Then, you must buy a new one to install into your Kenmore oven.

Buying a new control board can be a bit pricey. So, you must rule out the other causes before deciding to replace the main control board.

Burnt Out Broil Element

Carefully inspect the broiler element to make sure it has no visible damage. If youre having trouble finding the broiler element, look for a red glow about an inch from the heating elements thats where you want to start looking. When youve found the broiler element, carefully check for signs of damage. If the element looks damaged, it probably is replace it.

If you suspect that the broil element on your Kenmore oven has burned out, check for continuity across the element by using a multimeter. If there is no continuity, replace the broil element.

Kenmore Oven Keeps Beeping

Constant beeping from your Kenmore oven can drive you and your family crazy. If this keeps happening and no error code is showing, it most likely is connected to a problem with the control board.

Check the control board to look for any areas or wires which appeared to be burned or damaged. If you find significant damage you will need to replace the control board which of course is a lot cheaper than buying a new oven.

If your Kenmore Oven is showing some type of error code while beeping, you can check for different causes by disconnecting the oven and checking for a damaged heating element. If you are getting a F11 code while the incessant beeping continues, this means that there is a short circuit within the touch controls of the oven. If an F3 error is showing, your problem is with a temperature control sensor. At this point, your best bet is probably to consult a certified Kenmore repair expert.

What Causes Control Boards In Ovens To Fail

Power surge damage is a common cause of electronic oven control board failure. A nearby lightning strike typically generates a power surge during an electric storm or when a utility provider tries to alleviate the load on the electrical grid but overshoots it.

Windstorms, which damage electrical lines and cause massive outages that overload local grids, can also cause the latter.

Why Does My Stove Work But Not My Oven

Lets say that the stove works fine, but the oven itself never heats up. In most common cases, this specific issue means that the broil element and the baking element remain functional. If its not the fuse, it could be the temperature sensor, broken or frayed wiring, or even a breakdown of the oven control board.

How do I test my oven control board?

Plug the ovens power cord into the wall outlet or turn on the main breaker. Check the electronic oven controls display panel after one hour. If the fault code isnt present, replace the touch pad. If the fault code has returned, reattach the ribbon for the touch pad and continue troubleshooting.

    Kenmore Oven Not Heating

If your Kenmore Oven is just not heating properly it could indicate something wrong with a major component involving the supply of electricity to one of the heating elements. This could involve a defective or malfunctioning oven relay board.

The oven relay board is responsible for adjusting how much electricity is supplied to the heating elements. If any one of the relays on the oven relay board has failed the oven will fail to heat normally. If the Kenmore Oven relay board is defective you will have to replace it entirely.

Another potential reason for your Kenmore Oven not heating could be from a malfunctioning door spring. These springs can easily be removed and then replaced which can be a quick fix for your ovens failure to heat.

    Kenmore Stove Not Working

Categories Home and Kitchen, Kenmore Stove, Stove/Oven

Kenmore stoves are well known for their reliability. One of the most frustrating things that can happen is to begin to prepare to cook a meal for your family, and then you are shocked to find out that your stovetop is not working. Before you begin to panic, start off by trying some simple troubleshooting steps to try to locate the problem which can then be addressed and rapidly fixed.

If your Kenmore stove is not working, check if all of the stovetops elements are heating up normally. If one of them is not working, the problem could be due to either an individual defective heating element or to a defective terminal block that is affecting all the stovetops heating elements.

The terminal block is the spot where all the electrical elements of your Kenmore Stove connect to the electrical power. Lift the defective element and take it off from the terminal. Try plugging in one of the good elements in its spot and if it does not work then the problem is with a poorly working terminal block. If it does work then you only need to replace the original element.

What Are The Most Common Oven Failures That Need Repair

Many different component failures can prevent your oven from working. Whether your oven control isnt turning on, the controls dont work or the oven wont heat, youll want to get the oven working again quickly.

Sometimes, you can fix a problem yourself by performing some basic troubleshooting steps described in the oven owners manual. Resetting a tripped house circuit breaker can sometimes restore power to your oven when it wont power up at all. Rebooting the electronic control board by shutting off the ovens circuit breaker for 3 minutes then restoring power can sometimes fix unresponsive controls.

When basic troubleshooting doesnt fix the oven problem youre facing, then youll need to schedule repair service to have a technician diagnose and fix the oven.

The Oven Temperature Sensor Is Defective

The sensor in a Kenmore oven detects the temperature in the appliance. If its defective, the temperature sensor will record the wrong temperature.

For example, the sensor could report a temperature equivalent to the one you set when the temperature is actually lower than that. This means that heating elements dont cycle as needed and may stay off when they should be on, causing your oven not to heat up.

A defective oven temperature sensor has to be replaced because it could also lead to errors on the control board and compromise the overall functioning of the oven.

    Kenmore Oven Will Not Preheat

Kenmore/Frigidaire/Electrolux Range Oven not Working=NO HEAT

If you are unable to preheat your Kenmore oven you are simply wasting time and delaying your meal preparation. This is often due to a problematic or defective igniter whose function is to bring electrical current into the oven safety valve to cause it to open. The oven igniter also causes the ignition of gas in the oven burner.

After turning the oven on, see if the igniter will continue to glow for ninety seconds or more before igniting the gas flame. If this happens it means that the igniter is not working properly. Then test it with a multimeter to see if it is fully operational or needs to be replaced.

Repair Or Replace The Oven Temperature Sensor

Because most ovens use electronic controls, the circuit board detects oven temperature using a sensor probe located inside the oven cavity. The electrical resistance of the sensor probe changes with temperature so the electronic control board monitors sensor resistance to determine oven temperature. The oven temperature sensor probe can wear out or break without warning. You may see an error code when the sensor isnt detecting temperature properly or the thermal fuse may blow because the oven gets too hot. A service technician will need to repair or replace the oven temperature sensor when it isnt detecting oven temperature properly.

On my 790 Range , stove tops working, but oven inside doesn’t heat no more than 100° f , I checked the elements , and all 3 are good, what part could be bad ?

    Cause 1

    Incoming Power Problem

Electric ovens require 240 volts of alternating current. Gas ovens require 120 volts. If an oven won’t turn on there could be an incoming power problem. To determine if the electrical outlet is providing sufficient voltage, use a multimeter to test the incoming power at the wall socket.

    Cause 2

    Thermal Fuse

If the oven gets too hot, the thermal fuse trips to shut off power to the oven. If the thermal fuse has blown, the oven will not heat. However, this is not a common occurrence. To determine if the thermal fuse is at fault, use a multimeter to test the fuse for continuity. If the thermal fuse does not have continuity, replace it. The thermal fuse cannot be resetif the fuse has blown, it must be replaced.

    Cause 3

    Loose or Burnt Wire Connection
