The Ninja comes with three trays , which is all you need to make just about anything youd make in a standard oven. Operation is fairly straightforward, even if you dont read the manual. Simply press the power button, click the Mode button that has the feature you want, use the dial to highlight it, then push in the dial to secure the setting. Once you choose a mode, use the Time/Slices and Temp/Shade buttons along with the settings dial to enter your preferred temp. These settings are where the ovens smarts come into play.

For example, if youre toasting some bread, select how many slices using the Time/Slices option. Press the Temp/Shade button and use the settings dial to pick how toasty you want it. If you like bread lightly toasted, pick a lower shade number like 2.

When the food is ready, the oven will sound an alert. It will also replace the Temp/Shade reading in the digital display with the word Hot. We particularly liked this feature, as we dont always have the willpower to wait for food to cool off enough before eating it. Once the oven is cool, it automatically turns off, so you never have to wonder if you turned off the oven.

Compared to the very first Flip Away Air Fryer Oven, the user interface of the Ninja SP301 is a bit more polished. Despite having two modes, in my opinion, its very intuitive.

The only part youll find confusing at first is the searing plate. It works in tandem with the Dual Heat Mode. To prevent under or overcooking your dish, it has to be preheated before baking, searing, grilling, baking your pizza, or using it as a griddle.

I also have to note that the searing plate can get pretty intense. It can reach 500. As a safety precaution, use oven mitts that can take that high of a temperature.

As soon as you take it out of the box, you get a sense that this countertop appliance is a high-quality product. Constructed of brushed stainless steel, its beautifully finished with rounded corners and has a digital control pad. Its also wider and shorter than a typical toaster oven.

When cooled and not in use, the Foodi Air Fry Oven can be flipped up on one side to stand up at the back of the counter, an odd but convenient storage solution.
