What Pans Should Not Go In The Oven

Nonstick pans are great for making pancakes, waffles, and omelets. But if youre looking to cook other dishes, such as stir-fries, casseroles, and soups, nonstick pans arent ideal because they tend to stick to the bottom of the pan. This makes it difficult to flip the dish over and prevents the food from browning properly. Nonstick pans are also not recommended for baking because they tend to burn easily.

Which Cookware Is Best For Oven
When choosing cookware for the oven, you need to consider several factors. The type of food you plan to cook, the types of appliances you have, and the material of the cookware are all important. Some materials are more suitable for high heat than others. You also need to ensure the handles are safe to handle.
Aluminum is one type of cookware that is often used in the oven. But while it is affordable, aluminum is not the best material for cooking. It is poor at distributing heat and it can leach metal into your food. To avoid these issues, look for cookware with a finish. This makes it easier to clean and it helps prevent metal from leaching into your food.
Stainless steel is another option. Stainless steel is very durable and it doesnt warp. Despite its durability, stainless steel isnt easy to clean. It is also more expensive than other cookware materials. If you want to save money, you may choose to opt for a set that features multiple pieces. These sets will allow you to create meals easily. They can also help you save time and energy.
Cast iron is an excellent choice for the oven. Cast iron can withstand temperatures up to 600 degrees Fahrenheit. However, it is a heavy pan that can be difficult to lift. Also, it has great heat retention properties. Once seasoned properly, cast iron can become nonstick.

Whats The Difference Between Nonstick And Hard Anodized
Nonstick coatings are popular because they allow foods to be cooked evenly and quickly without sticking. Hard anodized coatings provide a more durable, scratch-resistant surface than nonstick coatings. The two types of coatings have some differences that should be considered when choosing one over the other.
Hard anodized coating is rougher than nonstick coating and has a metallic sheen. Its also more durable, resisting scratches and staining. Nonstick coatings are less likely to cause food buildup or sticking, but they can be scratched easily. Additionally, nonstick coatings may not be as heat-resistant as hard anodized coating, so care must be taken when using a stovetop or oven with them.

Look for scratch-resistant non-stick thatll hold up to long-term wear and tear. Further, to avoid any health issues or chemical aftertaste, look for eco-friendly materials, particularly ones that are PFOA-free.
Recipe results
Finally, we made a batch of American pancakes, this allowed us to check how evenly the pan heated up, how efficiently it transferred to the food and whether the non-stick had the necessary subtle grip. For example, did the pancakes spread too much initially or were they nicely puffed? Was the surface of the pancakes evenly browned, or was it patchy?

How To Protect Skillet Handles In A Hot Oven
We discovered a method for protecting skillet handles from oven temperatures in excess of their rated ovensafe temperatures.
When we tested nonstick skillets in 2010, the manufacturer of our winner, the T-fal Professional Non-Stick Fry Pan, 12.5 Inches, informed us that the pan was ovensafe to 450 degrees. The company recently updated this limit, stating that the silicone covering on the handle could be damaged if heated above 350 degrees. Since we have recipes that require putting a nonstick skillet in an oven hotter than that, we wanted a method for protecting the handle in ovens running up to 450 degrees.
We tried simply wrapping the handle with a double layer of aluminum foil, but in a 450-degree oven this bought us only a few extra minutes before the handle exceeded 350 degrees. A better approach was to wrap the handle in a double layer of wet paper towels and then cover the towels with a double layer of foil. As long as there was water within the foil jacket , the temperature of the handle couldnt exceed 212 degrees . We found that the handle stayed safely below 350 degrees for a solid 30 minutes in a 450-degree oven and for well over an hour in a 425-degree oven, after which the water boiled away.
This trick will also work with any pot or pannot just our winning T-fal skilletthat needs to go into a hot oven and has a handle that is ovensafe only up to 350 degrees.

Are Frying Pans Oven
The short answer is, yes, most frying pans are oven-safe up to at least 350°F , but the oven-safe temperature varies by brand, materials, and pan types.
Stainless steel, cast iron, copper, and carbon steel frying pans have the highest oven-safety ratings, with an average maximum temperature of 500°F. Non-stick pans are oven-safe up to 450°F on average.
Non-stick pans with PTFE coatings should never be used in an oven above 500°F. Exposure to high heat can degrade the coating and release harmful fumes .
Before putting a frying pan into your oven, check the product specs and determine what temperatures are safe for your particular cookware.
For context, lets look at a few examples and compare their oven-safe temperatures.
Carbon steel and cast iron frying pans:
- Le Creuset cast iron frying pan: oven-safe to 500°F.
Stainless steel frying pans:
- Made In stainless steel frying pan: oven-safe to 800°F.
Copper frying pans:
- Lagostina copper frying pan: oven-safe to 500°F.
All of these options provide context to the strong heat-resistant qualities of carbon steel, cast iron, stainless steel, and copper. Other materials have a bit less heat resistance than these, but that doesnt mean they arent oven-safe.
Pans with silicone- or plastic-wrappedhandles typically have the lowest oven-safe temperatures. For example, the Anolon Advanced non-stick fry pan is oven-safe up to 400°F, and GreenLife Soft Grip pans are oven-safe up to 350°F.
