When you open up the box, this is what youll find:

Underneath all this, youll find the 16-inch pizza stone. Its packaged in very thick bubble wrap so I wasnt worried about it breaking during shipping! Its pretty hefty for how thin it is!

The safety instructions are packaged alongside the stone. Youll want to hold onto this! It has troubleshooting information and also instructions for cleaning and maintenance.

Inside a protective layer of padding is the Ooni Koda 16 itself.

The oven is easy to handle and comes with the gas hose already attached. Because its a pre-built oven, there are no other parts to connect or assemble!

Finally, youll find the extendable match holder. This is helpful in case the burners wont light.

Just place a lit match next to the burner to ignite.

Our First Impression With Ooni Koda 16

So the first thing the Ooni Koda 16 comes with the oven itself, the propane hose, and regulator. A match holder in case the igniter doesnt light and a 15-millimeter quarter-right stone baking board you will need to insert yourself.

I like that this is replaceable, as some ovens come with the stone built-in except for the stone baking board, the oven is ready to go right out of the box.

You simply unfold the legs and hook up your fuel were using propane a natural gas conversion. The kit is available.

According to the manual, you should inspect the valve connections and regulator, remove any debris and inspect the hose for damage.

Next, we turn on the gas, making sure the oven is off before leading the oven, uni states to check for gas leaks by using a soap and water mixture use one part soap and one part water and apply it to the fittings.

If theres a leak, you will see this mixture start to bubble if any leaks are found, tighten the fitting and if that doesnt fix it, turn off the gas, dont use it, and call customer service To light the oven, make sure the control knob is off.

Next, push in the control knob and slowly turn for three seconds until you hear a click and the burner ignites, then hold for five more seconds after ignition.

If the oven does not ignite, turn off the knob and wait five minutes before retrying.

If the igniter fails, you can use a match.

Ooni Koda 16 Review: Most In

This is the Ooni Koda 16 gas-powered outdoor pizza oven. Ooni claims it can reach a temperature of 932 degrees Fahrenheit or 500 degrees celsius and can cook a 16-inch pizza in 60 seconds.

While we are no experts in making pizzas, I have a huge family, and we make a lot of pizzas, but when it comes to cooking in these high-top ovens, there is a learning curve and mistakes were made.

When you have an Ooni pizza oven in your outdoor kitchen, the phrase pizza party takes on a whole new meaning. Your guests will no longer just come over to eat pizza. Theyll be coming for the whole experience. The waterfall effect from the innovative L-shaped flame is mesmerizing to watch, and these gas powered outdoor pizza ovens cook jaw-dropping pizzas in a mere 60-90 seconds. Pretty cool is an understatement.

Consistency At A Turn Of A Knob

While lacking the romantic craft of a crackling flame and wood smoke, it’s easier to make a habit out of cooking dang good pies when you dont have to futz with keeping a wood fuel source at a consistent temperature.

After 15 minutes of the Kodas L-shaped burner running at full blast, the majority of the pizza stone is piping hot at 600-plus degrees Fahrenheit. Whats also nice about the propane oven is once the pizza stone is up to temp, you can quickly adjust the flame down to achieve a well-cooked bottom without a burnt crust.

What Kind Of Dough Should I Use In The Ooni Koda 16

If youre making your own pizza dough, start with the classic pizza dough recipe right on Oonis website.

However, there are a couple of things youll need to know.

  • Ooni recipes favor the metric system, so you may feel a little lost for a moment if youre like me who lives in the American world of cups and teaspoons. It may be time to invest in a digital kitchen scale while you get acclimated.
  • Ever heard of 00 flour? I certainly hadnt. Ive learned that its basically the secret ingredient to a good Neapolitan pizza crust. And it turns out hunting down 00 flour during the dog days of COVID-19 proved to be extra challenging. Fortunately, it seems like the supply is now recovering making it a little easier to find.
  • Get yourself a dough proofing tray that can fit in the fridge. It will be your best friend when you go to separate your dough into individual balls and dont want them all to run into each other.

    How Hot Can The Koda 16 Get

    Tested: Ooni Koda 16 Gas Powered Pizza Oven!

    Ooni boasts on their product page that this oven can reach temperatures up to 950ºF / 500ºC. This is perfect for cooking Neapolitan-style pizzas, which must be cooked at very high temperatures.

    Though you dont need to cook everything that hot! In fact, I recommend you stay around 750ºF / 400ºC.

    Thanks to its insulating shell, all this heat that Ooni Koda 16 produces is trapped inside. So it helps retain and redirect heat back to the food inside. However, the outside of the oven can still get really hot, so its still unsafe to touch.

    Finally, the Ooni Koda 16 stands on three legs in a tripod pattern. The bottom of each leg is covered in non-slip rubber.

    So the whole oven feels very sturdy Ive never been worried about accidentally knocking it over.

    In addition, the legs are collapsible, making it easy to transport and store.
