HOW TO REPLACE THE HEATING ELEMENT IN A WHIRLPOOL OVEN

Carefully disconnect each spade wire connector from the heating element. You may be able to pull them off with your fingers, or you can use needle-nose pliers. Pull only on the metal connector never pull on the wire itself, or you risk damaging it or separating it from its connector.

Make sure each wire cannot slip back into the oven housing before releasing your hold on it. If necessary, temporarily tape the wires to the oven wall with electrical tape or masking tape.

Signs Your Ovens Heating Element Is Broken

Do you think its time for a new range? It could be. The average ranges life is 10 to 15 years. A new gas or electric model costs about $300 to $2,200, depending on its features.

However, replacing the ovens heatingelement might be all thats needed.

Replacement heating elements cost as little as $25, in addition to a possibleinstallation charge.

But first, you needto know whether the heating element is causing the problem or if the entireappliance should be replaced.

Remove The Heating Element Mounting Plate

The first step is to locate the baking heating element and the bracket that holds it in place at the bottom rear of the oven.

Open the oven door and remove all of the oven racks. Locate the mounting plate or bracket at the rear of the faulty bake element. Remove the screws securing the plate to the oven wall, using a screwdriver or nut driver.

Plug the range back into the electrical wall outlet or turn on the house circuit breakers for the range.

If you pulled out the range to unplug it, push the range into position and ensure that the rear leveling foot properly engages with the anti-tip bracket so the range doesnt fall forward when you open the oven door and pull out a loaded oven rack.

Check The New Element

Now its time to check your work. Plug in the cord in the electric socket and press the power button. You can place a glass of water inside the oven and inspect whether the oven is heating the water or not.

If the water warms up, you successfully changed the element, but if the issue is still there, you can hire a certified professional to inspect the oven and fix the trouble.

How To Replace A Range Exposed Bake Element

This DIY range repair guide shows how to replace an exposed bake element in an electric range. This type of bake element sits on top of the oven floor, instead of being hidden under a panel on the bottom of the oven. Because the element is exposed, its easy to see cracks or a melted spot indicating that you need to replace the element. But the element can look okay and still not heat.

Replace the bake element with a manufacturer-approved range part if the oven doesn’t heat in bake mode or if the bake element is damaged.

These instructions show how to replace an exposed bake element in Kenmore, Frigidaire, Whirlpool, KitchenAid, Maytag, GE, Amana, Samsung and LG ranges.

If your range has a hidden bake element, see this repair guide for help replacing that type of element.

How Do I Check If My Ge Heating Element Needs To Be Replaced

The simplest way to work this out is to turn your oven on and then check if the element is bright red. If not, it needs to be replaced. If the heating element is only working partially or if it has noticeable cracks in it, then this is also evidence that it needs to be replaced.

Once youve determined your heating element needs to be replaced, you will need to purchase the correct replacement heating element for your specific GE oven. Most of the large appliance parts retailers will have the right model for you, and thankfully they arent that expensive to purchase.

Once you have the right replacement part, you can follow these 4 simple steps to install your new element.

If your oven isn’t warming up the way it should, the problem might be a bad heating element. Replacing a faulty element isn’t hard, but it can be a little tricky to manipulate some of the smaller parts within the tight confines of the oven. First, shut off the power to the oven at your home’s main breaker to ensure that you’re working safely. Then, identify and detach the old element. The new element will attach in the same fashion as the old one. Once you’re done, you can switch the power back on and give the oven a trial run.

How To Replace A Hidden Bake Element In Your Oven

In most ovens, the elements are both exposed and visible. Both the top and bottom elements can clearly be seen if you peer into the oven. You can see them glow and judge how well theyre working based on the glow. But not all ovens are built like this. With some ovens, the bake element is hidden. The heat still disperses evenly but the element itself is hidden beneath the bottom plate of the oven. You may have a hidden broil element as well, but this is even less common. A hidden bake element is considered a cleaner, more attractive design for an oven but its not impossible to work with. If your baking results have shown that the bake element is not working correctly, you may need to tackle a hidden element replacement. You can tell if your casseroles and cakes bake unevenly or if there seems to no heat coming from the lower element at all.

This guide will help you replace your hidden and non-functional bake element.

Next, reattach all the brackets and screws. Ideally, you will have gotten a new set of fastening hardware with your element. If not, use the set you just removed from the previous element. Take your time and mount the element in securely at all points.

Should The Top Element Come On During Baking

Some ovens only use the bake element only, never turning top of the broil element on during baking. Your oven is working normally because it should and doesnt require service. Most electric ovens use both bake element and also the broil aspect in a bake cycle, using the bake element performing 90 % from the heating.

    Replace Heating Element In Oven

An electric oven depends on the heating element to generate the heat inside the unit. In most models, two heating elements are installed one at the top of the unit and the second at the bottom.

If any of these become defective for any reason, then you can replace them this way. But before you start your work, you must have the essential tools like hand gloves, a screwdriver to open the nuts, and needle-nose piler.

Replacing your oven heating element is something that you should not often have to do. In fact, the heating element is a tough old thing and rarely needs to be replaced before the rest of the oven breaks down. However, if you have an oven heating element that does need replacing, for example if it has developed a fault, don’t worry. Replacing your oven heating element is not that difficult to do. Of course, you could have someone come into your home and do the work for you, but if you are reasonably competent with a screwdriver, you should have absolutely no problem in changing the heating element yourself.

Reattach The Mounting Plate And Test The Oven

Secure the element’s mounting plate to the back wall of the oven with the mounting screws. Make sure the screws are firmly anchored.

Plug the oven into the wall outlet or turn on the circuit breaker to restore power to the oven. Turn the oven to BAKE to check the new element for proper operation. It should glow with a consistent bright-orange color while heating.

If you removed the bottom drawer, slide it back into place. Return the oven racks to the oven.

How Long Should An Oven Last

Typically, you may expect your electric oven to last 13 years, nowadays, as well as your gas oven to last 15. But, like other things, the greater you utilize it, the faster itll put on out. Daily use for any group of five will put on a stove out quicker than just warming up a frozen pizza a few occasions per month.
