S Mores In The Oven

Must read

To Make Smores You Will Need:

Oven Baked S’mores Bars
  • Graham crackers
  • Aluminum pie pan

Break graham crackers in half to make squares. Place four squares in the pie pan. Place a marshmallow on each.

IMPORTANT!

Note that unlike most recipes, our smores have the marshmallow UNDER the chocolate. Thats because, in the solar oven, it takes the marshmallow longer to melt than the chocolate.

Place the pan in the preheated solar oven.

Close the oven lid tightly, and prop up the flap to reflect the sunlight into the box.

Depending on how hot the day is, and how directly the sunlight shines on the oven, the marshmallows will take 30 to 60 minutes to get squishy when you poke them.

Then, open the oven lid and place a piece of chocolate on top of each marshmallow. Place another graham cracker square on top of the chocolate and press down gently to squash the marshmallow.

Close the lid of the solar oven and let the Sun heat it up for a few minutes more, just to melt the chocolate a bit.

Melt The Sugar For The Caramel

The trickiest part of making these oven-baked s’mores is preparing the caramel sauce, but there’s no need to be nervous about it. While making caramel might seem daunting, it’s not difficult as long as you’re patient and attentive.

It starts by gradually melting the sugar in a pot until it becomes a liquid. “Definitely keep an eye on the sugar and whisk often so it doesn’t burn,” Shelbert advises. “It will slowly convert to a liquid. It will be a light brown.” She estimates this process will take about 10 minutes, and says that it’s possible the sugar might clump before it liquifies. Once the sugar has melted entirely, you’re ready for the next step in the process. Make sure to have everything ready to go right away, since overcooking the sugar once it’s melted could cause it to burn.

How Do You Start A Smores Fire

There are many ways to start a smolder, but the key is to have some heat and something to light it on. Smores starters can be either DIY or pre-made. If youre looking for an easy way to make smores,

there are a few options out there. One option is to burn marshmallows in a small pot over low heat until theyre melted and get light brown. Another option is to use a propane BBQ lighter and set it near the firewood so that when the flame lights up the marshmallows, they cook quickly.

When Was The Smore Invented

Although the exact date isnt known, the first formal smores recipe first appeared in Tramping and Trailing with the Girl Scouts in 1927. Loretta Scott Crew is credited for the recipe who would make them for her girl scouts by the campfire.

The recipe was called Some Mores and called for 16 graham crackers, 16 marshmallows, and eight bars of chocolate broken in two.

How To Make Smores In The Toaster Oven

    1. Break a graham cracker sheet into two squares and place them on your toaster oven baking pan.

    2. Top each graham with a square of chocolate and a marshmallow.

    3. Place the pan inside of your toaster oven. But before you turn it on, take a quick peek to make sure youve left plenty of space between the heating elements and the marshmallows.

The marshmallows puff up and if theyre too close to the elements they can catch on fire. Yep, that helpful nugget does come from personal experience

    4. Set the toaster oven to Broil and cook until the marshmallows are puffed and golden on top, about 2 to 3 minutes .

Similar to toasting coconut, not much happens at first but once the marshmallows start to brown they can become burnt quickly so dont walk away.

    5. Remove the pan and top with the remaining graham crackers. I like to press the graham down lightly to really smoosh the marshmallow into the chocolate. ThenDIG IN!

My marshmallows keep burning, what can I do?

Some toaster ovens and countertop ovens have very intense broil settings. If your marshmallows are browning too fast there are two things you can try.

  • Move the rack to a lower level.
  • If your oven has an adjustable broiler, turn the temperature down.
  • On our large countertop oven, we like to turn the Broiler temperature down to 400°F and use the middle rack placement. The smores take about 3 minutes to brown.

If these options are not possible or they dont work for you, try baking instead of broiling the smores.

After sauteing the onion and celery in butter, add the poultry seasoning and spices , then the chicken broth or stock. Dont forget to stir it occasionally so you wont burn the mixture.

Put the lid on and bring all the mixture to a boil. After boiling, remove it from the heat, add the Kraft stuffing mix, and stir until all the stuffing mix has been moistened.

Put the lid back on the skillet and allow it to sit for 5 minutes. But if you have used a small skillet pan, you can mix and combine it first on a large pan instead.

    How To Make Smores Bars

    Preheat oven to 375 degrees

Crush Graham crackers. There are several different ways to do this. I use a gallon size Ziplock bag and a rolling pin. You could also use a food processor.

In a large bowl mix together Graham cracker crumbs, flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. Slowly stir in butter until large clumps form.

Press crust mixture into the bottom of a 13×9 inch baking dish. I like to use parchment paper on the bottom of the pan, it makes for a easier clean up. Place the smores in the oven and bake at 375 for 15-18 min.

While the crust is baking, Chop chocolate bars into 1/2 inch squares.

Once the crust is golden brown remove from oven. Sprinkle all but 1 cup of chocolate chunks onto hot crust. Preheat oven to Broil.

When the chocolate chunks are melted spread evenly over crust.

Sprinkle marshmallows evenly over chocolate, followed by the remaining chocolate chunks.

Place SMore bars in oven for 1-2 mins. or until toasted.

Let bars cool for 15 min. cut and ENJOY!

Every bite of these baked smores are filled with gooey marshmallow, melted chocolate and crunchy graham crackers. The perfect dessert to make you feel like you are sitting around a campfire.

Smores = Graham Crackers + Toasted Marshmallow + Chocolate

While I pretty much always stick with store-bought graham crackers when Im making smores, you can use any kind of cookie that you think would make a good cookie sandwich.

Here are some homemade cookies recipes you might want to try:

I also typically use store-bought marshmallows but you could also take the opportunity to learn how to make homemade marshmallows.

Once you know the basic recipe, there are lots of ways to customize them like peppermint marshmallows, espresso marshmallows, and lemon and rosemary marshmallows.

    Store-bought marshmallows are great, too!

    • Jumbo Sized these work best in the oven or air fryer.
    • Classic Sized these work well for all methods.
    • Mini Sized can work for any method, although a little tricky to keep in place.
    • Stuffed Puffs these come with some kind of center, like milk chocolate. These work well in the oven or air fryer.

You can use any kind of chocolate bar or chocolate candy for the centers of indoor smores.

    Finish The Caramel Sauce

Once your sugar is completely melted and golden, it’s time to start adding the rest of ingredients for the sauce. Add in the unsalted butter and whisk it until it’s fully incorporated, about two minutes. Then it’s time to add the cream or half and half, whisking for another couple minutes. The last things to go in are the vanilla and a pinch of salt.

At this point, you need to raise the heat to medium high and bring the caramel to a boil. After a minute, you remove the saucepan from the heat and allow the caramel sauce to cool for about 30 minutes, during which time it’ll thicken a little more.
